100% Honest D2 beta review.

Hello all! I thought I'd share my opinions, and thoughts on the things I've gathered from the Destiny 2 beta. Opening Mission, The opening mission I thought was very well put together, from start to finish. Though I'd really like to hear our guardians actually speak to the ghost at the beginning. From the very beginning, I felt that the gunplay was more stiff, more refined. It definitely felt different, but in a better way. The jumps are more fluent, more crisp feeling, and they don't drag. Overall, it was a great way to start a sequel. It started out strong, and finished even stronger Inverted Spire Strike Besides the over use of dialog in my opinion. I thought the strike was great. It felt way less linear And more wide open. My fireteam and I explored until everything we thought was glanced upon, and we found what we believe to be an entrance into a Lost sector. It also seemed like there were enemies around every corner. Which felt a little less like the enemies were on rails. Like the previous title. As far as the final boss fight. It seemed like the boss was a bullet sponge, but this might change with different, more powerful weapons. The changing of arenas, and the falling through the floors was a great aspect. It felt more interactive until the very conclusion of the fight. Overall the strike was fun, and different. PVP This was where I knew I'd be more critical of my assessment, because pvp is where I hung my cloak when I ran out of things to do as far as Pve content. Pvp in my opinion felt better, and it played better. Less grenade spamming, less ability spamming, and more reliant on the skill with a gun. It definitely felt slower, which I thought was great after a few matches. I Especially loved the power ammo aspect to where only 1 person per team can utilize it. Which made it seem more tactical. There was ALOT of team shooting, which I believe won't be a problem if your team sticks together, and plays together. As it should anyways. Gunplay felt balanced, supers felt balanced. There wasn't a single super that I felt stood out from the rest, as far as power, and mobility. I can settle with 1 super per round. It's perfectly fine. If you utilize it correctly, it can completely change the outcome of the game. Out of the 12 matches we played. We lost 2, by a very little margin. Overall, I think, and I honestly feel like it's an improvement. As an overall, in my honest opinion I think that the beta was a vast improvement. They didn't change much of the core aspect, but what they did change. Felt great. Believe me people, I'm in no means a fan boy. I haven't played Destiny since December of last year. I'm a gamer, plain and simple. I'd never want to see a gaming franchise fail. I simply went into the Beta with a level head, and an open mind. These were just my thoughts and opinions on the beta. Things I'd change The recharge timers on supers, and abilities in Pve. We need some feeling of power. I mean, we've triumphed over gods in D1. So dumbing the recharge timers on abilities isn't a good thing. I also got word that the power ammo drops will increase in Pve when the game is released. So they're listening. There NEEDS to be a thick line between PVP, and PVE. If your thoughts and opinions are different, then be sure to hit up the feedback forums, and express your feelings, and concerns. It's important that they make the game for EVERYONE. ~INDY

  • What about increasing the amount of super earned for kills? This would solve the issue of everybody getting their super at the end of the match in PvP and increase the up time for supers in PvE where there are boat loads of enemies to kill, without the need for a separate balance (which for those who haven't paid attention to Bungie executives in interviews is about as likely as pigs sprouting wings and learning to fly). For the grenade and melee abilities they could simply shorten the cooldown time a little bit as they aren't powerful enough to be a problem in PvP anymore. That coupled with armour that will likely help this should be more than enough on that front, and again would improve both sides of the game. That cooldown times seem to be the biggest issue with the beta is a promising sign as this is probably the easiest thing to fix.

      • Mostly agree. Bungie got the big things right. But the way the beta is tuned works for pvp, but not for pve. Feel too much like The Master Chief playing the strike.

I disagree, that Beta doesnt call me to play, is flat... D1 feels better, and we know what is wrong with D1 already, D2 just went down the hill. my first impresion on pvp was overwatch, way too cartoon, nerfed guns and skills. weapon slots are messed up too. the story mission, nothing new, RoI had better mission, and my ghost still has that anoying voice. the strike was fun, I noticed power ammo dropping a lot from elites, so we avoided killing regular mobs, skipping fights just rushing from minibosses to final boss. on a second run we spent time on open events and exploring the map, I bet pve has been improved. today is saturday, and I m nood in the mood for destiny, that beta sucks.

Cons: - Shoulder charge is now literally useless - People are always grouped up/Only 4v4 (Since bungie clearly doesn't have a problem with bringing things back from D1, I don't understand why they couldn't just have 6v6 and 3v3. The "make it more competitive" BS is just them trying to shortcut around the lag instead of actually fixing it) -Every gun is a pea shooter -Fusion rifles, shotguns, and snipers need power ammo -Everything feels so slow -Supers are ass, dawnbreaker is just hammer of sol but with a sword, arc strider is literally just blade dancer, sentinel is just the shield from VoG Pros: ??? I prob won't buy destiny 2, pvp is what made it fun for me and this beta's was horrible. The pve did seem better through

      • I disagree with your positive outlook on D2 PvP. Destiny PvP should be ability spams to some degree, and the "heavy" ammo 1 person grabbing is a joke. This new 4v4 layout with marshmallow bullets may seem more "balanced", and "competitive" to some or maybe even the majority of the community. But if you wanted that type of PvP then go play COD, destiny PvP (D1) is about the "unique", enjoyable fun. But at the end of the day no matter what, it's all 100% OPINION on these matters. • "gunplay, more refined"... I actually felt the exact opposite of that. I would consider year one destiny gunplay the most refined gunplay I've ever experienced in an fps. after the weapon balance attempts it was my opinion that around year two the refinement started going away in favor of a looser, less accurate feel closer to cod, battlefield, or halo. The D2 beta, with the exception of using supers during the last 30 - 50 seconds of a pvp match, is getting so much closer to being the halo clone that will fit into e-sports that activision wanted all along when they bought bungie.

        • The teamfire aspect of pvp seems a little annoying to me. Maybe it's just the map but anytime I had a team that didn't know what to do or didn't want to cap b... We got destroyed. I like having 1 on 1 battles but it seems as though those are a thing of the past. I need to play more before I commit to an opinion on pvp. I'm an old dog so new tricks are rough for me. Otherwise everything else feels great to me!!!! What a breath of fresh air!!! Something very different from D1 which is what I wanted.

          • I can agree with some things, but I hate lift on the titan now. I know I know, they nerfed increased control. I've tried the hunter and warlock though and they seem alright, jump wise at least. They all feel rather slow moving and squishy on the other hand. I am also okay with one super per round but not if it's at the last 20 seconds even if I had a decent game. 14 kills, 1.2 k/d, still won't get it until you're at about 67/75 points in control. Countdown is different because it's slower. You might get it at about the 8th or 9th overall point. Supers do take a while to charge in PvE but I feel like we can do so much more with them. It's not hard to kill 7-10 enemies that aren't even close together and make 4 or 5 orbs. They feel like they last a decent enough time. Still, quicker charge pls Grenades also feel super weak in PvE. Might kill one legionnaire or two war beasts with a single grenade. Weapons: the single bolt fusion feels weak af. The regular fusion that the warlock starts out with is pretty good on the other hand. The sniper also feels weak. Don't even think I 1 shot a legionnaire on a precision hit. I guess the primaries are alright though. Meh

              • For some reason everyone's Pro Destiny 2 argument seems to be that it's not destiny. Which is crazy given the fact that most of the people who are heralding this game are the most die-hard Destiny fanboys ever...

                • Disagree on pvp. I enjoyed all the abilities in destiny 1. Even running from sun breakers or storm trance.. It made destiny different. Now it just feels empty..
