Destiny 2 Vex Theory (maybe spoilers?)

Relevant Facts: Io is the last place that the Traveler touched before the Collapse. Vex are machines brought to life in a Vex chamber we've seen in a leaked cut-scene, looks like a place we've seen concept art for in Destiny 2. Vex structures all over Io. Vex are capable of travelling through time and building/leaving behind their structures. Theory: What if the last act of the Traveler on Io before the Collapse began was to make the Vex, bring them into being and try to make them a peaceful race to serve the Light. But the Darkness corrupted them and they spread throughout history, then attacked Earth/The Traveler to cause the Collapse? They wouldn't be able to hurt the Traveler before it created them, or else they would prevent their own creation and create a paradox, but once they returned to the time of their creation they'd be able to activate all the machines built across the past and begin to tear down the Golden Age. They also wouldn't be able to put Vex structures anywhere people would find them on earth, the moon, or much of mars as that would change the course of history before we found the Traveler. Anything outside of that wouldn't be too much of a problem as we might expect to find alien structures on alien worlds. So the timeline still works out, and it would give specific reasoning as to why the Collapse began when it did. Sure, they're not talking about "The Darkness" in Destiny 2, but they don't have to give us the full story now. They can just say that the Vex turned on the Traveler. If this is correct though, we have to wonder what their next move is. Did they just get distracted in their worship of the Black Garden's Heart? Are they gearing up for an assault? Why aren't the on earth yet? Is there something else that has to happen across time before they can finish the job? Is that to fulfill part of their "pattern"? It seems like "The Pattern" would be events across history that lead to their victory, so perhaps in exploring Io we'll get to learn more about the beginning of that pattern. Thoughts? Does something in the Grimoire contradict this possibility?

  • What if vex are just ghosts that wanted to be more than just servants to guardians.

    • The vex are known to have existed for a very long time, but there were like 3 or 4 portals in our world before the traveler came. Most likely they won a war in a different timeline and invaded us now. Besides, the vex fought the hive in several grilmore cards that predate the traveler's arrival.

    • Before the Traveler arrived, the Vex never had a significant hold on our universe... just a few Ecumene gates. Also, if the Deep corrupted the Vex, they would be a SHIT ton stronger than they are now. And if the Traveler created them, they would have an understanding of the Deep, the Light, causal and paracausal forces... but they don't. This is dis-proven by them trying to use the Heart of the Black Garden to beat both. Now, here's where it gets interesting. "The Stranger's Timeline" as I call it, is a future where the Vex succeeded in getting a MASSIVE 1-up and using the Sol Progeny at their full power to unleash hell on the universe. As the Stranger has no knowledge of the Hive and doesn't seem to care about the Fallen or Cabal, it is safe to say that; 1. The Hive, as they are the Vex's worst enemy, have been COMPLETELY wiped out. 2. The Stranger was not forged in light, so she could've been built in a world where the Traveler is gone, further signifying that the Vex want to eliminate very large threats, like the Traveler and Guardians. 3. As their is still a resistance, the Vex must consider humans (or maybe even Cabal and Fallen) as useful in the future. To that last one, it extends to this timeline as well. They need us, even if we don't know it, or they keep fighting us. It is VERY possible that (if the sun going boom at the end of the D2 trailer is ours) the Vex will help us fight this outcome. They're still fighting because we do a lot of damage to their system. Their goal is to know everything there is to know, to become a fundamental part of the universe (based on the mission title "Entropy's Pinnacle" they may already have). For some reason, even if the Hive cease to exist, they need us.

      • I wish I knew enough about the lore to intelligently discuss this but I do love how much you've clearly thought about it. Makes me want to look further into it. Hope someone with deep lore knowledge finds this post.

      • No. This contradicts the book of sorrows and the vex 1-4 grimior cards.
