When people refer to timers, what do they mean?
People are talking about the nightfall strike timers revealed to be in Destiny 2.
How fast are the timers?
We don't know yet. Here is my opinion on the possible speeds:
Way Too Fast: The player must skip parts of the strike and will run out of time with a single wipe.
Too Fast: The player feels pressed to rush the mission.
Best: The player can play at a normal rate, not frantically worrying about the timer but keeping it in mind.
Too Slow: The player can camp or play extremely passively without punishment.
.
All in all we don't know the speed of timers. I hope the will not cause rushing, but still do their duty. It will make solos difficult, but punishes those way underleveled.
But … don't timers reduce exploration? It is an open world game …
Exploration is available in patrol/normal strikes. If there are hidden quests in nightfall stikes I agree it will be annoying to find, but general exploration (in my opinion) shouldn't be encouraged.
But … won't people just skip the strike?
It depends on the speed of the timer. I have that worry as well, but am hopeful the timer won't be all the present (unless you cheese/play extremely passive).

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If Bungie decided to remove all guns and make players throw rocks, you fanboys would be on here telling everyone what a great idea it is. They can literally do no wrong in your eyes. Get some Tic-Tacs, your breath smells of Bungie cock.
