So, I played the beta on PS4, and I got to check out the beta on PC last night. The game runs incredibly well on PC, it seems very well optimized, at least on my rig it is. But I'm not here to talk about PC vs. Console or anything like that. They both have their merits. I'm here to talk about the balancing changes that bungie expressed were present in this build. Some things are noticeable, some things a bit less so.
Super Recharge - It is noticeably faster to charge your super, if still a tad slow, I feel like it could be a bit faster, overall it seems to be a decent balance, unlike grenade recharge...
Grenade Recharge - Still god awful slow... The time it takes to charge your grenade is NOT worth the payoff. They mentioned that the grenades were stronger, but they aren't noticeably any stronger than last beta or even D1 really, which makes the recharge time even worse. Grenades should be far more frequent. I've gotten so used to my charge times in D1 that I often try to use my grenade at a specific time only to find out it's not even halfway charged yet. That's way too long for so little payoff!
Damage to Enemies - This has noticeably improved, some enemies still feel like bullet sponges, or some weapons are just bad and don't feel like they do anything. Overall though I found that dispatching enemies was quicker, not necessarily easier, but my guardian just felt that much stronger than the original beta.
Movement Speed - Overall movement speed feels ok, it doesn't seem to have changed much if at all. I think at this point I'm just used to it, but warlock initial burst jump doesn't feel like it does anything at all.
Power Ammo - This still doesn't drop frequently enough, not enough to make this weapon system a viable replacement for the D1 system... Speaking of...
D2 Weapon System - This is the hot topic, I still don't see the benefit for PvE players in this system. The energy shield explosion looks like it's implemented in this beta, and it's just not worth it. I don't see the utility in having a kinetic AND energy weapon when they both do exactly the same thing except one takes down a shielded enemy faster, which we rarely see, especially in the element we have equipped. Bungie needs to give this one way more thought, because it just feels so pointless and doesn't provide enough combat variety in our arsenal.
So in summary...
- Super recharge is better
- Grenade recharge is too slow, the payoff isn't noticeable, we want to use abilities more, it's more fun
- Damage to enemies has improved, my guardian feels a bit stronger
- Movement speed doesn't seem changed much, warlock burst jump still sucks
- Power Ammo drops more, but not enough to make D2 Weapon system a viable replacement for D1
- D2 system with energy weapons doesn't have the utility D1 had, feels pointless to have an energy weapon for such rare occasions when kinetic does the exact same thing the majority of the time...
Those are my thoughts, has anyone else had a chance to try the PC Beta? How are you finding it?
EDIT: Some people seem to think that I'm just looking to s**t on the game, but I'm really not. I do really like the beta (PS4 and PC) and I'm very much looking forward to the game. Everything I've written is my feedback, doesn't mean i dislike the game, it just means I think it can improve.

while abilities and quicker recharges is fun, this is kind of cool to as ppl have to rely more on gun skill now, which in its own way is cool ... either way, i'm cool with it either way.

Good thing you enjoyed the Beta, cause that's how the game is gonna drop HAVE FUN

I mostly agree with everything you said. - Super is better - Grenades are definitely too slow - Damage is better I'd say I prefer the new weapon system tbh. Right now we're only seeing a smidge of the game, so you dont know how freequent shielded enemies will be, and really; I think having two 'primary' weapon slots (one obviously being the energy weapons) makes things a lot better for both PvE and PvP. It freshens up what you're shooting at in PvE a little bit because you're not constantly streaming the same type of fire at enemies like we had too in D1, whereas in PvP it helps because if one mag runs out in your kinetic weapon you can switch to your energy weapon and know you'll have a similar shooting style i.e rapid firing weapons with accuracy, as opposed to shotguns or snipers. Just my two cents worth anyway... Not saying you're wrong in anyway, just wanted to add to what you said. Overall the PC version is VERY nice, and im super excited to switch to PC from PS4. Hopefully I'll see you out there!

Part of what you may need to keep in mind is as far as we know, we are in base, statless gear. i dont know if int/disc/stren are making a comeback but remember how much that affected recharges? As for the power ammo, this last strike i did it ALMOST seemed to drop as much as D1 heavy... if you treat your power weap as a heavy and conserve it its close to what it was. still, having sniper/shotgun share the spot with heavy is silly.
-
The weapon system is completely DOA in PvE
-
PVP continues to ruin the game. I wish I could say I was stunned (I'm not). Would be a much better game, without it.
-
I can begrudgingly learn to enjoy the new weapon system. I'll adapt. But the ability timers have to improve. I main a Space Wizard for -blam!-s sake. Give me back my Space Magic!
-
Thank god they didn't change ability charge. Hope they never do. Ability spam is the absolute worst. Movement speed doesn't need to change for anyone, although I agree about Warlock jumps. Granted I hated it in Destiny 1 so....yeah. Power ammo economy and weapon system is fine for me. I use my primary, brace yourselves for this.....primarily....so I barely notice not having heavy ammo, even though those times were actually rare. All in all, I'm happy with the build. Now it's just about content. Whether it's good enough, long enough, etc. We'll see.

My main issues thus far are long CDs on abilities. Grenades, Supers, Movement etc are what separates the classes playstyles and for a game that has damage sponge enemies having shorter CDs is vital to good gamepleay.

Did weapons feel stronger in PvP?
-
Thanks for your input. I didn't expect it to be drastically different from the console beta. Super and ability recharge times need to remain slow because of their PVP design and their wish to place more emphasis on gun play than ability or power weapon play. That's fine for a pure FPS which is PVP oriented, but doesn't work in PVE IMO. Overall, not seeing anything that changes my mind about NOT getting Destiny 2. The D2 weapon system is such an egregiously negative change to PVE solely for PVP reasons that I can't justify spending any more money on the Destiny franchise until they separate the modes completely. If we PVE players were sick and tired of having crap nerfed in PVE for the sake of PVP, if we were sick and tired of PVE suffering because of changes deemed necessary for PVP, then I don't see how anyone who claims to be a PVE-oriented player can justify buying into D2. D2 will continue the same PVP-oriented trend that was prevalent in Y2/Y3, except its on steroids now.

I was watching several streams of the PC Beta last night as well. For parity: Bungie themselves have said that the PC Players are playing a much newer version of D2 than we played in the Console Beta. In fact; Bungie even said that this PC build in the Beta, is the closest to the full release version of D2. - Super and Ability recharge is still agonizingly slow, to the point that it makes me wonder if Bungie even really tweaked the recharge rates. At least kills are bumping up the recharge of the Super, but it's still way to slow to be considered even remotely useful. - The Power Ammo drops are still abysmal to the point that I have to ask; "Why even bother equipping a 'Power Weapon'?". - Primary and Second Primary damage is still atrocious. PC Players are plinking away at the enemies and Yellow bars just as we did in the console beta. No real noticeable increase on weapon damage to speak of. - Movement Speed? Looks like the Guardians are running around with an extra 40lbs of weight in their boots, and Bungie still hasn't fixed the embarrassing Warlock jump. In short; it doesn't look like Bungie changed much of anything from their "old" build for the Console Beta to what we see in the "newer, closer to final release" PC Beta build. D2 looks and plays so slowly, I fully expect it to be a full on snore-fest. It's just embarrassing to think that this garbage is what Bungie is thinking about releasing... and they fully believe that they "nailed it".

I actually just watched a streamer on twitch that was new to the D2 beta, and had trouble actually knowing about what energy weapons do. Played the whole strike without switching from energy to power or even to kinetic. Kinetic and energy were basically the same. On the whole it was dull stuff to watch not for any player skill reasons, but due to the slow pace of the characters and lack of exciting kills, pretty much due to the kinetic energy change. The plodding pace through the strike. PvP was all about the teamshot or the other team getting power ammo with snipers a problem in D1 PvP. Again the slow pace was pretty dull to watch. I really hope that this isn't going to be the actual release build. The only noticeable change from the PS4 beta was the power ammo drops. Other than that not much change. The raid is going to be a shit show if this keeps up. imagine doing TTK totems below recommended level with nothing but primary and no supers. and yet again the hardest boss was the turbine. Still no markers pointing out what your supposed to be shooting. That makes me wonder is anything got changed from the PS4 beta. Nothing with what was on show in this beta changed my mind on buying this day 1. Still waiting for reviews Boring to play, boring to watch.

"Well, the PC beta is an old built to test out.....Chickens? The game will be extremely different when it Releases"~Some dev -_-
-
Ya I had the same feedback after playing the PC beta as well! Also stoked for the game to release, should be a good laugh.
-
Thanks for taking the time to write this. As expected, the changes were so little they were basically worthless. Once again proving the fanboy shills wrong. How many times do they need proven wrong? Serious question.

I know for myself, I didn't play any of the console betas, but I can agree that I really wish Grenade Timer was faster and honestly-- that there was no grenade timer at all, but an actual number. I found it really annoying when I wanted to throw a grenade... But I had to wait for the timer to actually get done-- and it got to the point where I took the attitude of "Screw grenades. Not worth." Which is not the mentality anyone should have. I also agree that Power Ammo needs to drop more often. Maybe not by much more, but just a bit more. I felt like I could never use my sniper rifle and when I did go to use it-- I then wish I hadn't used it when I did and saved it for another moment, because I had no ammo at that time when it would have been far more useful. I suppose once you get to know a Strike map, you will know when to save and not to save, but for those early runs, it gets annoying.

Edited by MockingCrow13: 8/30/2017 6:48:04 AMI fully agree with you my good sir!!! Grenades recharge rate is god awful, and the payoff is not worth the wait at all. In my opinion the time to get a Super should be quite a bit more frequent, you can honestly go for more than half a round without a Super in a bad day lol. Just personal opinion at this point, but what's up with only 4v4 matches? I get its suppose to make the matches slower and players double think their moves a bit, but it feels kind of bland tbh...

As a hunter, I think our class ability cooldown needs to be tweaked. Our "roll" ability appears to be a tad too long. I'd also like to see a visual countdown on my recharge abilities, instead of just a slow gray refill of that specific ability. I always install mods that show numerical cues. Helps me plan out a fight better.
-
I'm still downloading. Mostly curious if my PC can even handle it.
-
I love it and will definitely have at least 1 character on PC and 1 on PS4. I am just grateful to see Destiny 2 as it should be viewed. SO beautiful. I have faith they know what they are doing with the weapon system and I am utilizing it as they want us to.
-
Thanks for this
-
Considering we can take the strike boss down in about 2-3 minutes using just primaries. I'd say enemies this time around are far from being bullet sponges
-
I'm seriously debating on buying this game or not, we are supposed to use our amazing abilities it's what this game is about but it seems like Bungie doesn't care about the fans and I don't want to support that
