Hi,
I’m a D1 player who logged over 3000 hours.
I play Crucible all the time, it’s my favorite Destiny Activity. I’m decent, not great.
(I hate Rumble BTW. Ironic, I know. I actually live for being a team player)
I did all the Raids, a lot. (I didn’t get Rise of Iron)
I was in a very successful Clan in D1(Knights of the Phoenix)
I have a lot friends on my friendlist.
So why do I, and other people, prefer to play solo 90% of the time?
There are several reasons, and I will try to be as concise as possible.
I HAVE LIMITED TIME TO PLAY:
When I get home, if I have time, I just want to jump into whatever activity
I feel like playing. I don’t want to see who is online, what activity they are doing, jump into their party,
ask them if they want to do what I want to do, wait in orbit, wait for two other people to join, or respond
to my messages, and THEN deal with the apology messages of, sorry already full etc etc.
I HAVE EMOTIONAL ANGST ABOUT THESE SOCIAL INTERACTIONS:
When I ask for friends to join me who are engaged in another activity I feel like I am bothering them.
Whether this is true or not, this is how it makes me feel, and I would rather not deal with it.
I DON’T ALWAYS FEEL LIKE TALKING:
Often times in these groups people are chatting away about their personal life, and it can be
overwhelming to me. I DO enjoy talking about the game, like callouts in PvP, but usually the
constant conversation about day-to-day life stresses me out and takes me out of the experience
I am trying to enjoy. (I hate CO-OP in story modes, because I can’t focus on the experience AT ALL)
This probably sounds funny to some people, but I bet for A LOT of solo players this is one of their
main reasons for preferring the Lone-Wolf.
THE STOP-START EXPERIENCE WITH GROUPS IS GRATING:
Play a match. One person leaves. 5 Minutes in Orbit till someone else can join. Play a match,
two people leave. Find replacements. Another 5 minutes. This tends to stress me out a lot.
I don’t know if I am coming off as a whiny wuss, but I wanted to shed some light on
why a lot of Guardians might prefer to play Solo. Maybe I am way off base.
Comments will let me know I guess.
EDIT: There appears to be some confusion here so I will clarify. I don't want Destiny to change. It should be a social game. It's awesome that way. I DO have a good time in 90% of Fireteams. I play with people all the time. The ONLY thing I would want either removed or tweaked is Skill Based Matchmaking. BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS POST IS ABOUT. I'm just trying to give a perspective of why players choose to play Solo. Even with friends, not everyone can beat a Raid or go Flawless in Trials, and that is the way it should be. I LOVE DESTINY.

THEN WTF WOULD YOU CREATE A FT IN THE FT CREATE BUT NOT INVITE ANYBODY OR LIKE ONLY 2 PEOPLE?? DO YOU LOVE WASTING YOUR LIFE AND JUST WAITING IN ORBIT FOR ETERNITY?? THIS HAPPENS WITH EVERY FF I SEE ON THE WEBSITE, I CHECK ON MY FIRETEAMS FOR AN HOUR OR SO AND MOST OF THEM HAVE NO ONE VERIFIED FOR AN INVITE...

I imagine that if I was shopping in a supermarket and randomly approached two kids, a young woman and two men of varying ages and said “Let’s all do our shopping together. It’ll be fun and we can save money on multipack deals” at best I’d likely be asked to leave the store as I was bothering other customers and at worst, the police would be called to investigate why a man in his 40s believes this is appropriate social behaviour. Odd how Bungie is trying to force this scenario in Destiny and Destiny 2.

ya like nightfall , y cant i get a team of random 6 people who are like me to play with. its to complicated and time-consuming to go on social media and then beg people to let u on there team as u r the first timer. where am i suppose to get the experience to play raid if i never get to play. y cant a sole player level up? they are asking u must be 300+ , i said ok so how do i get to 300+ lol i am 34 and i hardly know anyone who plays ps4, so where am i suppose to find people who play destiny. i enjoy playing this game and wants to keep up with everyone else, but if the game itself doesn't allow it then what can i do. i don't mind fireteams but being a sole player i have also paid in full then y cant i enjoy all the features of the game. i don't mind fireteam getting more bonus rewards but i hate the fact i cant play a certain part if i don't no people. they should put that in there add that the game is not for sole people after a certain level.

Edited by Varzin: 9/16/2017 6:34:46 PMDo you want to enjoy the benefits of a clan but don't actually want to interact with anyone else? Then Axiomatica is the clan for you. (XBone) "A clan for people who don't like clans...or social interaction...or people." https://www.bungie.net/en/ClanV2?groupid=693883 About us:
Axiomatica is a clan for people who don't like clans. We act as a single name under which players can enjoy the benefits of a clan rank and banner without ever needing to interact with anyone else. We don't have regularly scheduled meet-ups, heck we don't have meet-ups at all. We don't need or desire to run raids, or strikes, or trials together. Members are expected to follow 2 simple guidelines: 1. Regularly contribute to the clan rank as much as you are able. 2. Be nice. Axiomatica's leadership reserves the right to ban any member from the clan for any reason, but as long as everyone's playing nice with each other there really should never be a problem. So come alone or bring your own group of friends. Noobs, pros, young, old, chatty, mute, purple, green, a literal cat with internet skills, we don't care. All are welcome to independently operate under the name Axiomatica. (^_^)
If you...
...are shy, introverted, anti-social, or otherwise just not fond of people then this is the clan for you. ...are generally too busy to commit long stretches of time to playing with others then this is the clan for you. ...don't care about raids or trials or any other endgame activity and just like to play by yourself then this is the clan for you.
To be perfectly honest and upfront about things...
Do not join Axiomatica and expect to find a group of people willing to help you through endgame activities. It's not that we're not nice people it's just that we prefer to keep to ourselves. Being a place to find a fireteam is not the purpose of this clan. Axiomatica aims to be an oasis for those who don't want to be bothered by constant fireteam invites and regularly scheduled activities. Feel free to contact other members just don't be surprised if you don't get much of a response back.
If you think Axiomatica will be a good fit for you then please click the link above and apply.

Im primarily a solo player as well, but I'll still do things like the Raid, Nightfall, and Trials with teams, I just won't talk unless need be. All I do is mute my mic and listen in on the group, it's never stressful, I'm never worried, and the group never talks to me unless they need to ask me something, it's simple, easy, and it works.
-
Also hate crashing into other people's parties. I feel like I'm the unwanted person. They might says it's ok, but you get the feeling they don't want you there or worse, they don't even know who you are.

Edited by indielablp: 9/18/2017 1:37:49 AMHey, im Vinny and im 33 years old. I know where your coming from and can relate. If your interested I have my own very small clan called Gunz N Order and your more than welcome to join. Im a solo player and mostly like it that way but I would like to do raids, nf and trials and would like to create a small community of like minded people. No pressure, obligations or requirements...just have fun and do what your heart desires. But if you ever want to do some end game and relax than you can utilize the clan to gather some teammates. But playing solo is still welcomed and if you dont feel like using a mic and talking that is also fine. You can have access to clan rewards and have some people to call on if your looking. Anyways just wanted to send you a welcome and if interested just check my clan out. If not its cool and happy hunting anyway. Gunz N Order (GZNO) ~Vinny

I prefer groups as long as I don't need to talk to anyone and no one talks or messages me. Talking to me is like people talking during a movie. Your co op presence is enough.
-
The whole playing "solo" is quickly dying out games are evolving into more socialized environment.
-
I usually play solo because am a girl, and the 4 times I did raids, it was horrible. All the guys I met on this game were disrespectful by talking about sex to make me embarassed or by imitating my voice (because I have high-pitched voice) It's really a big problem
-
Am in a clan and have plenty of online friends, but most of the time I like to play solo. I like to be my own driver and I have no problem stopping what am doing to help a friend or clan mate or asking for help myself. So I do understand the mentality of playing solo **caught caught (Why rumble needs to return)
-
I like working with others to accomplish a goal, but sometimes I just want to be the driver without passengers.

Nail Head Hammer
-
"Man this game would be awesome with friends!" Gets friends Immediately sets system to show me offline and goes back to playing solo.
-
i have 300+ friends and most of the time i like to play solo

I have crippling anxiety and paranoia (inb4 "meds and therapy!". They only do so much). So having to jump through the hoops of social interaction to find a fireteam, and then have to listen to strangers talk for however long it takes to complete something is...problematic...on a good day, and causes anxiety attacks on bad days. Do I expect Bungie to cater to my mental illness? No, absolutely not. Should they take the single player community into consideration? Yes, they really should. Other than that the OP is pretty spot on.

Generations of strong men fought and died in World War 1 and World War 2 so todays generation could be too timid to talk to someone else.......ONLINE

Dick.....fact

Need 2 for trials of the nine bounty run message rowdymc1bomb for invite :)
-
Bungie hate solo players, they will always finds a way to screw them and they did in D2, i give this game 3 months max!
-
This is perfect. I have severe Adhd (Diagnosed unlike most people who say they have it) and a lot of the times I seriously can't focus while I'm in a fire team. Also sometimes I just like to smoke some fire ass weed and run around by my self.
-
Dude people just bait each other in the crucible.
-
Nothing but beta males here
-
I just can't be arsed to chat to randoms most of the time tbh
-
Hey, thanks for sharing. But if ya don't mind me asking, why share this? Are people against single player...players?
-
Why people who play in a fireteam don't care why you play solo. We just don't.
