Random loot in a loot based game is pretty common. It wouldn't be a big deal if the loot wasn't all fixed, static pieces. The problem is adding that to the token system makes it tedious as hell and it just doesn't work. A loot game has certain requirements; you can't take half of its core away and expect the rest to keep working... and, unfortunately, that's exactly what they've done.
You know, when the beta came out I felt like it was way too short and lacking in content, but figured they just wanted to keep things hush-hush. Now I feel like they did that because they didn't want players to realize that these glaring problems existed before they could make the sale. Like, there was no real way to know all loot was fixed rolls - it was very easy to assume that was just a beta thing. If they'd done a fuller beta I feel like there would have been a lot more complaints earlier on, and I think that it was intentionally lacking.
