I have realized why Destiny 2's story is so bad. And its not what you think.

I just realized the crappy thing about destiny 2's story, and it kind of reveals their plan to me when it comes to how they will approach story in the future. Whether you like the story or think it's garbage, as a sequel, it is undoubty terrible story telling. And let me say this first, I DID enjoy the story. It was fun. It was an enjoyable story like the Transformers movies. It's a fun ride, but don't expect depth, character development, or some crazy plot twists. But the reason why it's terrible story telling is because it answers zero of the questions we had from destiny 1. As a true sequel, I feel like it was it's duty to do this. And it failed. There is no true progression, so I think that classifies it as a filler episode. Except instead of it being just a 20 minute filler episode out of a whole season of episodes, it's an entire filler movie out of two movies. And with them teasing that other enemy at the end, I'm sure they will be in a dlc, probably one not included in the season pass. So my theory is, with the base games, Bungie is going to leave us with a lot of questions and open threads. And they will only close those threads and answer those questions with the dlc. It's a brilliant business idea, but also a scummy one, if that's what they're going for.

  • Out of curiosity what makes you think that questions will get answered and threads closed in dlc for D2, if those same questions weren't answered in D1 with all its dlc? I think you're right about "filler" but I think it's purposely designed to create a narrative that's easy to follow for anyone playing and new to the series. That said it actually changes story apparently so there really isn't any reason to believe they will stick to something from the first game at all. I skipped rise of iron in D1 but apparently I keep reading that at the end you, as the generation of "young wolves" become iron lords and then in D2 it's back to just one dude and that part is sort of ignored. I don't think bungie even knows where to go with stories at times, remember taken King, which seems to have been the most popular expansion was actually in the vanilla game but cut out at some point of production.
