I have a ghost that says it detects loot caches within a 30-meter range, and when I scope in with my sniper rifle it shows loot cache icons from loot caches far out of that 30-meter range. I can then run to and collect those caches without any searching at all. I am using a Shepard's Watch sniper rifle with a zoom 30 focus and a Graylight Shell ghost that says "Detects caches in a 30-meter range while on Io." I am on PC.
This isn't really a bug or a glitch, it's more of a feature and been around since Destiny's version of these ghosts. The range is the base range of the effect, but ADS with a weapon increases your range based on the weapon's zoom level (just like it increases the weapon's range stat when ADS and firing).
As sniper rifles increase their range considerably when ADS, it does the same for the effective range of the ghost. If you'd like, think of it as your ghost peeking over your shoulder and using the scope to increase its sensor range.
