what exactly did they improve, are there specific weapons to gain? how about emblems for each lost sector you complete? lost sector gear? none of that? hmm exactly what did they improve.. oh did they hide them so it wasn't painfully obvious where they were.. no not that either.. i'm at a loss as to exactly how they improved them.

There are emblems for lost sectors. You get it from the first sector you do, on each planet.

I mean personally I think it would be a clutter of emblems, but I think he meant each sector should have its own Emblem, not that each planet should only have 1. He could have also meant an emblem that tracks Lost Sector Completion. But I think its safe to say you and him have reached a communication barrier of some sort.

I wrote each lost sector because yes.. EACH LOST SECTOR. I agree it would be overkill and have a cluster-blam!- of useless emblems.. but, still.. it would be something, you would be able to collect the completion of each one.. your idea of a counter is also a good one.. the communication barrier is simply ignorance on his part..
