For once in her life, Alpha was actually and genuinely moved. Nobody around here sang just to sing unless they were mentally unbalanced. The Dojo was a place of strife, forever condemned to rot in the hells of eternal conflict. Such a voice like Mion's was rare.
So, she cried. Alpha cried like she had never cried before, reminded of a time before the chaos and the fighting and the struggles. It was like Mion's singing rubbed away the rust Alpha had accumulated on her soul, the shell she had constructed and rarely ever let up in front of others. She was caught off-guard.
Slung around her shoulders was a simple dufflebag, and she held a small notepad with which to write something. This was forgotten, crunched up in her hand in the midst of her anguish.
Even as her cries would reverberate throughout the woods, she never stopped. Her body wracked with sobs and occupied with releasing the sorrow built up within her through the years.
Idris. Her mother. Alpha could remember the lullabies of yesteryear sung to her in her youth, calming her thoughts of monsters in her closet. Only, she had locked that away. The girl had become so damaged that in order to survive she had closed off that part of her mind, hoping never to have to face a reminder of home again. However, in the wake of Mion's song, Alpha felt her determination to hold onto such cold and harsh perceptions slipping away.
Again, she was a small 14 year old teen, curled up on the ground after facing ruthless experimentation and torture, crying for her mother. Only, just as it had happened then, her mother did not answer.
The only response was silence.
