So, I was on the boat that Bungie bungled the sequel too. However, after gathering evidence and articles from 2015-2017, I was amazed at all the bread crumbs that were left to follow.
Activision brought in their own team, and High Moon, and Vicarious Visions studios all to help Bungie make D2. It's no longer just a Bungie creation. (Too many cooks in the kitchen spoil the soup.)
In the articles, tweets, magazines, etc that I found... They literally spelt out the doom of D1 & what D2 would mean...
"Destroy Destiny 1 and start over."
"Reboot of the franchise."
"Appeal to a much broader audience."
"Eventually bring back elements from Destiny 1 in DLC and free content over the next year."
"Rewrite the whole story, back story, and lore."
"Change the game mechanics."
"Change the loot system."
And it went on. It literally describes what we got in D2. There really weren't many, or any, broken promises. I think the start of D2, the actual destruction of the Tower and all, was their way to fully show us what we knew and had before is gone.
Let it sink in.

"Reboot of the franchise." "Appeal to a much broader audience." "Rewrite the whole story, back story, and lore." If the stopped there maybe we would have a great game at launch. They could have then left almost everything else as it was and given us either another class or heavily expanded on each of the current sub-classes. Then just focus on delivering good game content. They did what Blizzard did to Diablo III, they spend all their energy changes things that didnt need to change and ended up with a game they are going to have to work hard at over the next coupld of DLCs.

This is the only reason I am waiting it out. For me it's OK if they bring back D1 Stuff, I never wanted there to be a D2 in the first place. D2 would have been fine as a huge expansion, with some new tweeks. Instead we got our tower and all our stuff destroyed. Damn you Gary!

The real question is if they will decide this idea was a poor one assuming they get enough negative feedback.

They won't decide shit. Did you listed to Activision's investors call? For them D2 couldn't be in a better place. Destiny is no longer a game, it's a freaking money cow.

Bump for doing the research that most of us don't bother with.
