"Breathe. Five seconds in, three seconds out. Repeat it. Feel it. Feel the heavy breaths, feel the weight behind them. Feel it pull them down on your lungs like rocks."
Natalie's hand guided the staff in her hand. She felt the weapon running along the length of her arm, across her back. She saw the head of it pointed at the tree downwind from her, the glowing purple crystal staring at the bark like a dog stared down a treat. She saw the tree restlessly rustle, the leaves falling gracefully onto the grassy ground below them. It was calming, a state much like a trance that she put herself into. The tree shook violently as it slipped out of the ground, snaking it's roots up and into the air above it. Then with a spin of her staff, Natalie brought it to the front side of her person and sent the tree flying somewhere behind her. It skidded to a halt on the ground maybe fifteen feet away, and she held the staff with either hand now. The power in her weapon felt living, it felt strong. She lifted it once more and sent it flying into the air now, like an eagle soaring high. It hit an eagle, funnily enough, which made Natalie laugh at the comparison. The tree came crashing down to earth a moment later although a burst of energy knocked it off the path, sending it flying outwards and away from Nat like a baseball when hit by a big, invisible bat. "Sounds like fun." Nat really had no room to speak. She was a normal person who joined a medieval army, so a bandit wasn't really somebody she was in a position to judge.
-
She let out a sigh of relief then, maybe a bit too loudly. Looking up to Nat then. "What's you're story?"
-
"Me? Well I like long walks on the beach, bandits, and magic," Natalie jokingly said in response, sitting up and looking over to Rose with a friendly demeanour over her face, given away by a light smile that graced her almost pale face. "I'm a chick from Vegas. Gambler, drinker, recently joined some sorta medieval army. Like, swords and stuff."
-
Bandits? That caught her off guard, and most likely Nat meant Rose, which made her face flush red. She tried to keep the conversation going then. "Well, certainly interesting. I haven't done anything as near as cool as joining an army."
-
"Believe me, it isn't too cool. Mainly I just walk around a camp with a friend and hang out - The real fun is in the main city."
-
"Heh, same here pretty much, aside from occasional raids on places." She shrugged, sitting down across from Nat.
-
"What do you mean raids?"
-
"Looting places, mostly abandoned areas, sometimes there's firefights that go on."
-
"Sounds like fun. What kind of stuff do you target?"
-
"Depends on what is needed at times, could be just about anything really." Letting out a sigh, it wasn't the best part, but then again being a bandit, raider, whatever you wanted to call it, wasn't the best part at times.
-
"Sounds exciting," Natalie responded, her tone more sarcastic than anything now. She laid there and stared at the blanket above for a moment, telekinetically flipping the burgers from afar. "Whats your camp like?"
-
"Hectic, loose rules, relaxed. Nothing really special." She watched her, waiting for the patties to finish.
-
"Really? That sounds awesome, honestly." Natalie sat up and grabbed a set of two plastic plates, as well as a couple of buns for the burgers. She put them on the buns and came back, handing a plate with two out for Rose.
-
She took it, thanking her afterwards. "It is at times, but it can get chaotic when people get too riled up."
-
"Do you at least have police to keep the peace?"
-
"We're bandits, there are no police. Just loose authority and a strict command structure." She raised one of the burgers, taking a bit from it then.
-
"Then why doesn't the person on top do something to keep people calm?"
-
"She does, and I'm second there, and I do as well. Just sometimes after a successful raid or looting we all let loose."
-
"You're second? How do you deal with it?"
-
"They all listen, the boss is the one who drilled it into them all."
-
"I hope you don't mean that literally; That sounds either fun or painful."
-
"Not literally, discipline, she doesn't take kindly to those who don't follow orders."
-
"She would have a field day in Dojoville then."
-
"Why, nobody listens there?"
-
"You could say that, yeah. It's kinda shitty at times, and the traffic is atrocious."
