(Note: If you hate long posts this one isn’t for you but I do recommend reading through all of it/if you’re trying to figure out which to play)
I tried warframe again yesterday after a loooooong time since it began. With the whole plains of eidolon free expansion and the story... my gosh it’s amazing. Yeah it’s a grind which personally I’m fine with but that’s what I loved in D1. That feeling of finally getting the thing I wanted was amazing, in Destiny 2 That feeling is gone. I was practically handed everything. NOW can Destiny 2 improve and tear me away from warframe? Probably, but only if they listen to the community. Now here’s my thoughts on both.
It’s difficult to compare the two games because they are different and BOTH do have their issues. That’s what I feel a lot of people on the forums get wrong/Destiny and Warframe are different in how they’re run, how they’re played, and how you get loot. My goal is to be as Unbiased as possible just as I am a fan of both games.
STORY-
D2) The story has always been where Destiny lacks. With “super important” characters who do absolutely nothing in-game besides hand out armor and weapons. All the way up to the final boss, I had problems throughout the whole thing. The lore was stripped out of the game instead of really being put into it and characters seemed to just pop up out of nowhere. Ghaul was a lackluster fight and we got our light back too fast. The farm is now useless. However, Bungie does go in the right direction with a lot of things. They listened to us when we said we wanted to see the city, what was behind Xur’s door, etc... it just would’ve been cool to have things open up more. War in the city etc... trying to fight our way in.
WF) Warframe has a great story but it does get confusing at times, instead of going into an actual mission sometimes the story is just to do a public event on a randomly generated map and get the story part for it etc... Destiny has actual locations and places set apart directly for the story (such as the tank missions) This is not to say the story isn’t good however the locations can feel repetitive. You do have to go in-depth into the game for the REAL story to begin (the war within) and it can be a bit of a grind. It’s definitely not a story made for casuals. There are friendly NPCs in missions occasionally however they don’t do too much.
(Location wise Destiny does it better but content wise Warframe wins)
MODS-
D2) The mod system in the game is set to decrease recoil, recharge rates, reload speed, etc... however guns have set range, ammo, and perks. The mod system feels lackluster and definitely needs improvement.
WF) The mod system is VERY in-depth and goes from setting enemies on fire to your companion picking up items automatically in a certain radius. However where warframe goes wrong is the mod system is sometimes TOO much for new players and needs a better tutorial.
(Destiny loses in complexity because of its simplicity/Warframe wins in Complexity but needs to streamline it)
GUNPLAY-
D2) Destiny has it set up where you gain regular Legendary weapons with set perks and exotic weapons with set perks + a special one designed for it. (Coldheart being a great example) The legendary weapons feel similar to each other and most versions of them are just reskinned. Because of the lacking mods legendaries can’t get to where they could be. Random rolls might not be necessary if they can get the system right for Mods.
WF) The guns in Warframe are all set rolls but each one of them Looks and Feels like an exotic from Destiny. From creating black holes to shooting out Micro-waves (the light version not the metal, though that would be funny :,) Every gun and I mean EVERY gun feels unique. Then you add on the mod system and it just explodes with how in-depth you can get. HOWEVER, with how you earn them it can get annoying. You must get a blueprint then gather all the resources for a gun and the grind can get really bad. Then you must wait for it to build.
(Gun wise Warframe comes out on top because of how unique every one of them are. Once you earn it there’s no reason to get it again just like in Destiny 2 but because there are also mods to grind for you can constantly improve it and change it how you like/Destiny needs a better mod system to make up for this but even then Warframe would come out on top for hardcore players)
TIME-
D2) In Destiny you go do an activity, earn and open an engram, then instantly have a new gun or armor piece to try out. Because of the guns already having set perks which are auto unlocked you can use it without any worries.
WF) This is where Warframe can get annoying. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING you craft takes time, we’re talking up to 24 hours to craft. How they make their money is to get some people to rush the crafting via impatience. You can earn the currency for this by selling in game items to people willing to give you platinum (the real world money turned to in game money) however it’s not recommended to waste it on speeding things up. Good news is in the next week you’ll have a new weapon or armor piece or other things to try out......
ARMOR-
D2) The armor needs work as currently is just cosmetic.
WF) The armor is mostly your actual frame itself, you can add mods onto your character (like an exo suit) and also customize your frame. It’s not really a bunch of different parts perk-wise but each section is able to have its cosmetic changed within reason. #fashionframeisendgame

There is definitely a lot of things to compare in each of them but in the end it’s up to you, if you prefer the grind Warframe is your game but if you don’t have much time Destiny is your go-to.
My verdict is Warframe can at times have TOO MUCH content and currently Destiny has TOO LITTLE but each can improve. Thanks for reading if you made it all the way down here and have a blessed day!
(Hope I wasn’t too biased I tried not to be just wanted to state facts)

I want to come back to this and explore it in detail later, but I think you've done a pretty good job contrasting them. Warframe gets brought up a lot here as a competitor and is looked to as an example for things (some) players want. But, it's not fair to do that because the games have far more differences than similarities. Warframe is a co-op game, to the point where you flat can't do some things solo unless you're very, very skilled and practiced. There is a setting to make it solo, but by default it's a co-op game. Destiny on the other hand is very much a solo game unless you choose it not to be. They're polar opposite in how the player approaches the game. Warframe is designed, intended, for the player to be overpowered. The developers want you to feel like a bada$$. Running at lightspeed, turning invisible at will, setting entire rooms on fire (looking at you Ember, you pyro); no consideration is given to balancing abilities for a competitive PVP mode because Warframe is quite clear that it is not a PVP game. There are 2 PVP modes and neither get much traffic. DE themselves have abandonned development on them because those modes see so few players. Warframe is, at it's core, a PVE game. Destiny 2 is designed from the ground up to be a PVP game. Bungie were quite clear on this for the past couple of years that all the decision they made for the game were with a "PVP-first" mindset. The PVE modes are there, yes, but they dont get the consideration they deserve because that's not where the studio's heart lies. This is the fundamental difference between the games and why it's not fair to compare them. I'll have more to say later.
