How Bungie could implement both random and static rolls.

I came for salt! What is this?

With random rolls gone, people have been begging Bungie to bring them back. But not everyone is happy with this. In taking them away, Bungie was taking away a popular grind at the request of many. Not everyone liked them. But in doing so they took away a HUGE grind and reason to keep playing. The problem is, Bungie can't have both static and random rolls, right? Right? I think that the best way to handle this is to give each Non exotic weapon both a static and random roll. Then you could swap between them in the menu. This makes it so you can still grind for that perfect roll if you want, but the gun will still be good if you get a crappy roll. If Bungie is really concerned about balance they could make it so content-locked activities will swap you to the set roll, but I don't think that would go down well. The only weapons that wouldn't work like this would be exotics (for obvious reasons) and limited time events (Iron Banner, Faction Rally, etc) that will have different rolls with different seasons.
If the Exotic Khvostov is returned, then it could have two identical rolls. Then you could swap between them by holding reload. That would make it more deserving of it's exotic status, follow it's "adaptive weapon" theme, and just be sweet.
• I'll make it simple, all non-exotic and non-trials/raid weapons have random rolls with an option to re-roll however place a limit on the number of times any given weapon can be re-rolled. If you use them up, go grind for the weapon again.

  • Get back to me when you figure a way to implement sushi rolls.

How about this idea. Add an additional mod spot to every legendary gun. Then create weapon specific mods; counterbalance, firefly, headseaker and the like... Allow us to farm for these mods, doing specific tasks, say Crucible and Strikes. Then the user could build whatever gun they wanted from the previous static rolled guns. Now everyone has access to all the same guns and has the same opportunity to create what may be deemed a god roll. This would create both customization and replayability without breaking the system.

It wouldn't change the fact that some weapons would end up being Godly if perks are randomized, sadly. I mean, people with crappy rolls would obviously take the "standard fixed rolls", but some people could still end up with a super stable explosive payload Uriel's Gift that could still do a lot of damage from a "very" long range (by AR standard). A happy medium would be to create a couple of fixed rolls of each item (maybe 4-5 per weapon). It would be easier to "nerf" or "buff" a single variant than to nerf an entire perk or weapon (which could have a negative impact for those who didn't get that godly roll, or those who didn't get the "problematic" weapon). Duplicates would be a little bit more interresting that way, and some unused weapons could end up with a cool variant, something that you would want to grind. These variant could be activity specific, and/or rarer than their original counterpart. That or they could add some randomization by adding mods that modify a single perk, but my guess is that people would end up with a couple of very strong weapons that way, and we would be back to what it was in Destiny 1, minus a lot of customization. But yeah, something must be done. Right now, duplicates are useless, and most guns are garbage.
