He stretched out his hand and a pulse of magic echoed from the lot, like a gong the size of the moon being struck a world away.

The air turned sweet with the scent of growing things. Emerald droplets like dew formed on the plants surrounding the circle, and rolled off the leaves onto the earth. As they ran down into the circle and ran around it like a trough, spreading outward into countless sylvan markings. The flowing text stood upwards and the brilliant green faded to countless saplings, which reached upwards and intertwined. Living wood and living stone grew together, flowing into and being drawn into a distinct shape. Rooms and roofs, doorways and windows, floors, stairwells, and all the other necessities. Within about five minutes, the proud old house, a Victorian manor’s slightly more humble cousin, made of living rock and yew and hawthorn and Rowan and pine and ancient, eternal Fey oak as a foundation finished growing into existence. Now surrounded by a verdant lawn of wild grass, and shaded by four tall thorny sycamore trees.
Verdantus wiped the sweat from his brow, looked harshly at the fresh stand of grey hair blowing across his head until it finally relented and turned back black and hopped on his head where it belonged. He gave a halfhearted and slightly weak snap to turn his work clothes back to his green suit, which was looking quite a bit darker and shabbier than usual, and walked up to his door and opened it, offering Nat an invitation to step in.
Kk. I'll let you kick it off when you want to.
The next day...
-
Nat had decided to come back around noonish, though she had been delayed by around half of an hour due to a few things she needed to take care of with the Trayvens. She was now donning her usual battle garb of a leather jerkin and matching leggings, the set coloured a dark purple to match her hair and with added patches of red velvet on the shoulders. Her staff hanged off her back in a small red harness for easy access.
-
Verdantus was sat outside waiting for her on a rock
-
"So woody, I think we should at least learn each other's names before we try to teach me, wouldn't you agree?" Nat inquired as she approached the rock. It had occured to her on the approach that she didn't actually know his name, and vice versa. All she knew was his race was tied to nature.
-
“For now Verdantus will do, and yours?”
-
"Natalie, call me Nat."
-
“A pleasure to see you again. Now, before we begin there’s one small matter, a contract setting out payment.”
-
"Alright. Whats the payment?"
-
“Time and knowledge. For every second I teach you you owe me one second of your time, and for every spell I teach you, you will demonstrate one of your gravity spells to me.”
-
"I don't have enough spells for that, man. I have like, six, tops."
-
“Give me a moment to think then...”
-
"..."
-
“Then perhaps we’ll just double the time commitment then, hm?”
-
"Do you think healing magic knowledge takes twelve seconds, dude?"
-
“No, nor does teaching it.”
-
"Exactly. So I'm cool with paying you what you'd like, just as long as I actually can. And I can't go teaching you all my magic since I don't have enough of it to pay the fee, y'know?"
-
“Of course.” He ponders for a moment. “Can you cook?”
-
"Depends on the meal, but yeah. Why?"
-
“I suppose you could pay for each spell with a meal.”
-
"Alright, that works. Am I cooking for the cute maid too, or just you?"
-
“The both of us plus my apprentice, Rosa.”
-
"You have yourself a deal. When do I star?"
-
“We can begin immediately if you like.”
-
"Okay. Just let me head home to grab some things and I'll start." And with that, Nat had left. She returned about an hour later, her staff and armour gone and replaced by a strange outfit. She had on a maid costume for the laughs, with the whole nine yards - The little headpiece, stockings, all of that. She had a black bag in her hands full of fresh ingredients, and she knocked on the door soon upon arriving. "Hello?"
