"Do you not know what I mean?"
-
"You mean the bridge of the ship, right?"
-
"Yes."
-
"Don't know where it is."
-
Polaris muttered something incomprehensible as he turned away from Phoebe, and his Ghost popped up next to him. The small thing was blue, with purple energy flickering across the edges of its shell, and a bright orange light in the centre of it. It looked damaged with scrapes and cuts, but it was still none the worse for wear. "Polaris, I'm uploading a map to your helmet. Initial scans show it to be untouched by Darkness beyond normal levels, but there appears to be a pit below that has higher than normal readings." "Thank you, Ghost," Polaris said to the Traveler's Agent, as it dissolved into a white shimmering. Polaris moved on and continued to creep through the corridors; The halls were barren, devoid of any Hive life forms or Fallen, but there were corpses strewn about the walkways and various bridges. Some corpses were still barely alive, but fell into their impending deaths as they willingly crawled off the heights and fell into the deepest depths. Whatever was in this ship that did this to them, it got into their minds - Death was a mercy to them. Polaris lead the two of them into the bridge of the ship, this one being a large central platform amidst an octagon of walkways, an impossibly high ledge hanging god knows how many feet above the floor. The room was, like the rest of the ship, full of the dead. Knights and Thralls lay in piles, many with missing chunks out of their armour or limbs fallen off their bodies. A single central command terminal remained actively seeping out a Ghost's Light. Another Guardian was surely in the area, all the two had to do was find him. There was an unsettling feeling about the place...
-
"Oh no..." Phoebe realized, "What. The. F**k. This is straight out of a horror movie."
-
"Quiet!" Polaris hushed her, as an underlying sound came about the room. A single long, drawn out scream flooded through the walls, as faded as it was. It came from a walkway outside, and Polaris went to investigate it.
-
She stayed with Polaris, absolutely terrified.
-
"H-Help! Over here!" cried out a Guardian in the middle of a walkway. Polaris sprinted over and crouched down next to him, settling his Bad Juju down next to him. The Guardian looked to be a Titan, the man's face was horrifically scarred and burned beyond any repair - It was to the point that he couldn't even open his eyes, nor did he look human. If it wasn't for the armour, he wouldn't even look like a species eligible to be Guardians. "Save yourselves. Oh god, run... The Knight..." And that was his final breath.
-
Phoebe crouched next to the fallen Titan, "The Knight?" She asked.
-
"The Knight... He cut me. Used a fancy Hive Sword, stole my Light right from me..." Those were his final words. A loud screech overcame the walkway and the Titan cringed; His hand slowly grabbed the sidearm in its holster and pressed the barrel against his forehead. He yelled in agony for a short time, before the shot came and the screams subsided. Both Hive and Human. There was something lurking below, something dark...
-
Phoebe rose to her feet. She carefully reached for her Dark-Drinker. Her hands wrapped around its hilt as she held on to it, drawing it and carefully turning, searching for threats. She looked to Polaris. She shivered, "You want this power?"
-
"Without a doubt. If a Guardian can wield it, then no enemy of the Light can." The ground shook violently then, forcing the both of them to their knees. Polaris grabbed his Bad Juju just before it fell off the edge, and the Titan's corpse slipped off the side of the walkway. Suddenly a great, giant wave of brown suddenly started to arise from the pit in front of both Polaris and Phoebe, each foot it moved creating a grinding sound so powerfully loud that it forced the glass of his helm to shatter into thousands of tiny fragments. The creature awakened; The Knight was upon them. Hundreds of feet tall was an understatement for the Colossus, with giant tentacles of green wrapped around its impossibly thick plates, binding them like clasps to its armour. A single, glowing eye of green caustic energy stared out at them, seeping down its face in years bigger than even the platform they stood on. It grabbed it's blade, which was easily as tall as it, and effortlessly used it to knock the base of the platform. The walkway fell out between both Phoebe and Polaris, but it remained floating in the air; It was slowly descending, not fast enough to kill them but certainly enough to plunge both of them into darkness. Some time later... The platform reached the bottom of the pit just then. Darkness swept through it and cascaded them in a blanket of evil, the Light from their Ghosts easily suppressed. They could feel it in their bones, each step they took off the platform draining them slightly of their energy. In the distance was a rather large Shrine - The question is, did Phoebe wish to visit it, or try to find something else?
"...Down the rabbit hole Alice went, never once thinking as to how she would get back up..."
-
She grasped her Dark-Drinker, tightly. "I'm scared," she admitted. She was terrified. What madness made her come here.
-
"Don't be. We don't have time for fear." Polaris pushed onwards to the shrine. It was maybe fifteen feet tall, with a floating orb on top of a waist-high shrine. The catch - Only Phoebe saw the green glow of the orb.
-
She followed, she was terrified. She clutched her sword woth great fear.
-
Polaris looked around, but the orb only called to Phoebe. It was like it was whispering her name, waiting to be touched.
-
She went to the orb. "What do you want from me?" She asked.
-
"Be cautious, Guardian, for the Light can become easily corrupted otherwise." The orb spoke almost like it knew Phoebe - It had a familiarity about it, one that nobody could recognize. Another shrine was lit in the distance as this one faded out; It called to her again.
-
She wanted to touch the orb, but she didn't. "My light..." She repeated, she stepped back from the orb."
-
"What of it?" Polaris asked, as he started to approach the other orb.
-
She stepped away from the orb, "It's not something I'll let become corrupt. Only madmen do that."
-
"Then don't? What sparked this?"
-
"I d-don't k-know," she would reply, shivering.
-
"Let's just keep moving. That's the best way to both get out of here and get power."
