Seeing as I’ve been playing a few more horror games as of late, I’ve decided to ask around and see if people also had this sort of experience.
As we all know, some games are incredibly cute and friendly on first glance, where it doesn’t look scary or horrible.
But after playing it for a while, it actually scares you, and you can’t go five feet without looking around the corner carefully.
I can name three games that follow this formula.
1. Portal. On first glance it looks like a puzzle game, and with an AI that loves to smack talk. But once you get to the later test chambers and see all the Rat Mans little hideouts, it gets reaaaaallllyy creepy.
2. Subnautica. Now you might be thinking, “What? Why?”
I’ll tell you why, it easily preys upon the fear of the ocean and when a goddamn reaper has you in its mouth, you can scream like a little bitch.
3. WoW.
Again, you might be thinking, “WHY?”. That’s because some of the weird shit that has never been explained. Like bodies floating in water, Outlands cannibal witch, and anything to do with the Scourge.
Anyways, I’ve ranted long enough, post games that are supposed to friendly, but are actually terrifying

Edited by Sapphire: 12/30/2017 5:37:58 PMLife is Strange maybe. At the surface it can just look like some game about teenage drama, and while that is definitely part of it, it gets... pretty dark. It's definitely not your typical kind of horror or anything, but... damn.

Edited by ReconWuzHere: 12/29/2017 10:02:54 PMThe Witcher 3, not exactly a cute and friendly game at first glance, but there were some scary moments in that game; scarier than what I had anticipated. That mission with the baron's baby is one example..
