So, you think a optional, non-obtrusive, easy to ignore store in the game is bad, or even evil?
Think on this. every piece of content will be behind a paywall, so mayhem would be gone behind a paywall (why give away a free mode when you have to pay people to build it?), nightfall will be behind a paywall (to keep it relevant with ever increasing light levels), the leviathan raid will be gone behind a paywall or become obsolete.(remember in D1 when they didn't keep raids light relevant, i do), bungie needs to pay money to develop things, and businesses need to make a profit. eververse sells cosmetic gear. nothing more, nothing less, and it also provides funding to the studio between expansions. Eververse paid for mayhem, masterworks, the dawning, and all the updates that well get for free, including private matches next year.
So do you want to stop loosing your minds about a trivial ingame function? for me personally. i would rather have eververse than have to buy membership, or premium access, or a DLC every month, which in the long run, will cost everyone more than eververse ever did.

I agree on one hand and on the other I understand what they did in D2. I think.... D1 had a plethora of complaints on grinding for the best weapons, armor and endgame loot. It was locked behind the toughest content. Add the rng to that and people were constantly complaining about how long they played or had to play to get X. This suited the grinders of the game because it is what they loved about the game (including me) and made those that earned that stuff have bragging rights over those that didn't. This didn't sit well with the less hardcore and casual fans of the game. D2 solution was to give the hard to earn loot out every easily so everyone could feel special. I never earned so many exotics than I did in my first week of D2. Hell, you could even earn raid rewards if you were part of clan without even participating in the raid. On top of this they added a pay to look good model. That payment is in the form of silver or the GRIND for bright dust which they thought would appeal to the hardcore community. What they failed to realize is grinding to acquire the same loot as the guy who just bought it is unrewarding. I feel if they had endgame rewards that were similar to D1 the eververse issue would be less of a problem. It still needs to be scaled back but it wouldn't be such a hot button. As someone who earned the VOG armor or vex mytho it was rewarding to earn that stuff in that activity and not have it handed to me or know that the guy who didn't play those activities could just buy or get the armor in a cheese way. So I don't agree with eververse currently but I understand that there are two style of gamers to cater to. I think they can bring back the grind of D1 for hardcore while still leaving a "pay to look good" option for those that don't want to.
