One thing we can all agree on - without variety in the game, the loot becomes stagnant FAST. With seasonal static roll variants, the loot system would always be fresh (as long as seasons are regularly updated) and you diversify the loot pool with old guns as well as the new ones added.
Static Roll Variants would be the same guns we have now with NEW static rolls for each season. i.e. in season 2 of destiny in addition to the new guns added, guns like Uriels Gift would get a refresh on their roll for the season. NOTE all the currently existing rolled guns would NOT change, they would just cease to drop with their current rolls and begin dropping with the static new roll. This accomplishes a number of things.
1. it gives potentially good guns that exist now but have garbage rolls a chance to become better guns.
2. Guns with good rolls now can see some diversity.
3. Players have something to grind for again - all the activities you did before will suddenly provide you with new things to look at and test out.
4. Weapon balancing will be no harder than it currently is (so no excuses from bungie about balancing issues)
5. Old guns retain that feeling of exclusivity once they no longer drop.
While random rolls were nice, grinding specifically for that god roll was tedius. I personally never minded that grind but i get why random rolls were nuked. With a static roll variant system in place, there are HUGE benefits to everyone looking for a reason to play D2.
Food for thought - as nice as the above sounds, imagine if you made two variants for each type each season. You've now suddenly created a new type of grind to acquire both variants accross all weapons and armor.
NOTE - armor currently wouldn't really benefit from this since the rolls are as lame as they are. I'm thinking armor down the road when they manage to fix it. IF they manage to fix it...
I'd really like to know the communities thought on this. Am I crazy to think this sounds like a great idea?

The problem here is that a gun from Season A can have a godly roll only to turn into a crap roll when Season B arrives. It's pretty harsh on people who weren't lucky enough to find the gun in time if it's only distributed via RNG. There's a lot of people out there who get totally screwed because the generator just hates them and refuses to spit out the gun no matter how hard they grind. I'm not saying everyone should easily get everything they want, but putting rolls behind season gates feels like a little too much.
