12:40, Dojo City
It was a particularly chilly day in the Dojo’s resident city, and snow was forecast for later in the day, and many people were trying to get things done around the city before the snow fell.
Sparrow was among them, a small girl only 14 years old, jogging around the city with an old, but sturdy looking camera. Her bright yellow eyes darted around in search of anything that stood out, like an artist in a museum looking for inspiration.
Very occasionally she would catch her eye on an animal, or a flower growing in an alley, or maybe just a person standing at a window.
Each click counted down the time, just up until the first flakes of the day fell. Sparrow hurriedly returned to her little shelter, a heated blanket under a folding table, with a stockpile of photos over a pile of blankets, which sat under all of it.
The whole thing sat in one of the cleanest alleys Sparrow could find, and was also where she sold her pictures. She only had a few left to sell before she had to develop more, and she was already setting up shop again in hopes of getting them out before the snow got too heavy.
In short time, she was sitting at the table, her legs under the heated blanket, with her pictures out on the table, the $5 price displayed on little scraps of paper under the pictures. Each one was beautiful, almost like paintings, with scenes that were rarely found in nature. Many caught the eye of passer byes, but none came to buy them. Yet.

“Oy, picture person” came a voice behind her. A man wearing a grey trench coat walks up to the table. “I was wondering if you have seen this before” he said, handing over a picture from his wallet. It looked like he was going to give you a picture of a girl or something, but instead he showed you a picture of a blue box. “If you have seen it can you please tell me where”
Can you give me more details about the pictures?
A young woman in green passes by, and pauses at her stand.
-
Sparrow looks up and her and gives a little wave, wearing a dull expression on her face. Three pictures sat on the table. A close-up of a stray cat’s face, a close-up of a very blue flower, and a picture of the whole city from high up. “Hi.”
-
“Hello. Who are you?”
-
“My name is Sparrow.” She simply said, in monotone.
-
*Sapphire approached the table, eyeing the photos. She stood out a little from the citizens of Dojoville, what with appearing to be a 6’4” hybrid of a white tiger and a human. She only wore a tank top and shorts despite the cold weather, her fur helping to keep her warm.* What’s this? *She stopped at the table and eyed the young girl before she glanced at the photos she was selling.* Trying to make some money with those?
-
Sparrow nodded, looking up at the tiger woman with a dull expression. “It’s the only way I get to eat in the morning. Or get anything really.” She pointed to the pictures, all of them maybe 3x3 inches in size. Each picture held a beautiful scene, like a blue flower in a big city, or a lonely cat in an alley way. Each one looked as though it were a painting, like a work of imagination and not just a frame in time. “They’re all five dollars, if you want one.”
-
You don’t have a home or money? *She tilted her head at the girl, her expression softening.* Sure, I guess I’ll buy one.
-
“I’ve gotten used to not having a home, it’s been four years...so...” The girl pushes some of the pictures forwards, so Sapphire can get a better look at them. There were three specifically, two of very interesting flowers, and one of a view of pretty much the entire city.
-
*She dismissed the one of the city, since her Dojo apartment had essentially the same view. She picked up one of the flower pictures, eyeing it closely. Her daughter Mari would probably like it.* Five dollars, huh? *She retrieved her wallet from her back pocket. Used to living on the streets or not, she wouldn’t feel right about giving only five dollars. She had a soft spot for those who didn’t have a home. Sapphire withdrew a hundred dollar bill and handed it to the girl.* Keep the change.
-
“Wha-...T-Thanks!” She almost immediately jumps up and hugs Sapphire, obviously overjoyed by the generous donation.
-
*Sapphire stiffened up with a surprised squawk. She didn’t hug or get hugged very often, especially not by strangers. Still, she gave the girl an awkward pat on the back.*
-
Just as quickly as she got up, she sat back down, putting the bill underneath the table with the rest of her things. “Sorry, miss. I just don’t really get this much money...ever. Even in a month...”
-
Oh, it’s alright. I try to help those who need it when I can. My name is Sapphire, by the way.
