[b][i][u]Chapter One: The City of Eternal Starlight[/u][/i][/b]

And so it began.
After losing an artifact, and gaining a few... acquaintances, she found herself walking in a dirty alley in a city she hadn't been to in years. It had become dangerous, the place, so much in fact that it wasn't even safe to walk on the streets. Yet now, in the shadows of a great city, she had found a little hope. An old friend. Even if it did come at a price.
It was raining, heavily in fact, as Sarah propped herself up against the brick wall of the building beside her. She got her phone out of her raincoat, dialed a number, and when no one answered, placed a message.
"Jason is it? Sarah. Sorry I left in such a rush. Just... you know. Got into a little mess. There's a friend of mine that's supposed to be just outside the Dojo in a few minutes. Meet up with him if you're interested."
[spoiler]Open for Driz. If you still wanted to do it. You be on a separate questline for the first few chapters then you'll merge in. It's not less in any way.[/spoiler]
She hung up, put down the phone, and resigned herself to wait. If Gabriel would actually show up, it would be interesting to see where this meeting would take them.
[spoiler]Open for Royal. The plot will become open to everyone again later on, if anyone wants to do it.[/spoiler]

"Umm. I'm not sure." She said, looking around. I think there's a panel nearby. Actives something. Let's have a look around. Check the walls."

"Gotcha." Gabriel moved backwards, looking around the walls of the maintenance tunnel for the panel Sarah was referring to.

He would encounter something, a small dip in the wall. A hidden panel on the wall's side.

"Hey, I think I may have found it." Gabriel slipped his hand into the dip in the wall, pressing his hand against the walls.

It would have ripped open to reveal a small electrical panel branded with an unknown logo. "Hey!" She said, "You found it!" Sarah moved over to it, prying off the metal cover and taking out a small circular device. She put it on the main electrical pipeline, and the outer ring started to spin. Construction lights came on, and a rusty metal bridge started to form. "Holy shit, I didn't think that would actually w-" Another blast stopped the process and ended up knocking the half of the bridge on the far side off, which fell in to the abyss. "Great. Now what?" She looked at the wall below where the bridge was, looking at the material. "You up for a little bit of climbing?"

"... Climbing?" Gabriel asked, looking over the edge of the abyss and back up to the other side. "Might as well... I'll follow your lead."

She took out what looked to be highly advanced... picks? "Here. Take these." She said, handing him a pair "Follow my lead." She stationed herself just before where the bridge started, and sprinted across it. Once she hit the edge, she jumped, her picks impaling themselves into the rock just a little bit below. Sarah, miraculously, managed to climb up. "Now, I know it's not ideal, and you'll be relying on complete upper body strength. But it's better than nothing."

"Really?!" Gabriel prepped himself, sprinting across the part of the bridge that had come out and leaping from the edge. His picks slammed into the wall, and his body shook from the impact.

Eventually, her would have stabilized, starting to climb up. After getting near the top, however, another tremor would cause him to drop one of his picks. "Shit." Sarah said, rocks starting to fall from above at a rapid rate. "Give me your hand. You're going to have to jump a little. Ready?"

"Yes, I'm ready... And you damn well better catch me." Gabriel pulled himself up in a swift motion, jumping into the air and reaching for Sarah.

She caught him just in time, yanking him up and above the edge. Once he was back on solid ground, Sarah looked at up at the cavern ceiling. It was... collapsing. Caving in. "Run!" She said, bolting for the door, which was opened easily. Unlocked, but by whom?

Gabriel didn't have time wonder about anything like that. He stumbled to his feet and sprinted toward the door, running through it and following after Sarah.

We should be near the mainframe now. Hopefully we can manage to turn it on. Or at least, make sure that nothing's... damaged. She moved to a section in the wall, feeling for a button. Sarah pressed down, and the door to a control room overlooking [url=https://imgur.com/IOAdsIP]some sort of chamber[/url]. It was dark, only illuminated by a blue beam of light in the center. "Zoe?" She called out, looking around frantically. After a few moments, a little girl peeked out from behind one of the consoles. About nine years old, with white hair, pale skin, and blue eyes, Zoe ran out from her hiding place to Sarah in an instant. "Oh thank god you're okay."

"Uh... Sarah?" Gabriel looked between herself and Zoe curiously. "You mind introducing me to your friend here? Maybe tell me why she's in a cave?"

"Of course." She said. "This is Zoe. Zoe. Gabriel." "Hello." The girl said shyly. "Anyway," she continued, "I haven't been completely honest with you. The thing is I... actually never left. Well, officially, I did. But I didn't, it's hard to explain. Regardless, Zoe is my best friend's kid. Name's Caroline. Used to work for Frontier or whatever the hell they're called now. Grew up an assassin. When she got free, she came here." Sarah paused, remembering something as if it was hard for her to finish the story. "She was still very young at the time. Helped us create our 'resistance' in the Outer District. Found this place for us. Stayed with us for a while. Until she had her kid." Another tremor. "Everything was going good for a few years. She would occasionally work with us, and helped me start [i]this[/i] treasure hunt. Hm. She was my best friend, and my partner in a way. The only other person besides my brother that was there for me. Always. She... vanished a few years ago." [spoiler]Most of my stuff is interconnected. I like it better that way.[/spoiler]

"Huh... You know, I thought I heard about a Caroline in the dojo. Might not be your Caroline though..." Gabriel looked off, thinking about the dojo. "Anyways. Hello Zoe. It's nice to meet you." Gabriel extended a hand to the young girl, smiling widely.

Zoe, while initially reluctant, eventually shook it after receiving the okay from Sarah. Her hand hand a strange... tingle to it. In fact, the girl completely had that air around her. Like she was emitting trace levels of energy. Literally. "You said there was a Caroline?" Sarah asked, curious at that fact. "White hair, pale skin, blue eyes?"

"I don't know, I never saw her myself. Mostly just the story of a woman. Faced off or worked with some guy named Drake I think." Gabriel shrugged at that, standing back up. "It's the dojo. Not everything heard is a true statement. As I have learned."

Another shake, this time more intense. Like it was closer... "We need to get those defenses on. N-" She was cut off when the power shut off, and alarms suddenly started to go off. "WARNING:" An automated voice said, as blast shields covered the windows. "Fusion Regulator OFFLINE. WARNING: Fusion Regulator OFFLINE."

"That sounds really... Really bad...." Gabriel looked around, before looking back at Sarah. "Can we get them back online if this engine is not working?" Gabriel asked simply.

"WARNING:" The automated voice started to say, before Sarah had a chance. "Reactor Core Destabilized. Threat level: Immediate. Time until Supercritical Status: 10 minutes. Broadcasting emergency evacuation signal." "You've got to be -blam!-ing kidding me." Sarah said, frantically looking around for a way to shut it down. The entire facility began to shake periodically, and an emergency message began to blast over the intercom. "Attention all facility personnel: Reactor Reaching Supercritical Levels. Please evacuate the facility immediately and retreat to a recommended minimum safe distance off [i]90[/i] kilometers." [spoiler]The island is remote, so it won't effect Dojo. But it will level the city, kill everyone in the area, cause possible disturbances in space time (more on that later), and put large amounts of deadly radiation into the atmosphere. There will be a way to fix it... eventually, but for now you just need to GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Oh wow, that's fun. [/spoiler] "Guess that answers that question. What's the quickest way out? We gotta go." Gabriel rushed around the room, looking for a potential exit strategy.

"Hmm." Sarah said, close to Zoe. "There's an old hanger down the main hallway. Has a small supply ship still parked inside from awhile back. Hasn't been used in a long time, but if I can jumpstart it..." She moved over to the door that led into the main hallway, undoing and unlocking the systems that kept it shut. "I know it's not much, but it's worth a shot."

"Yeah, I agree. Let's get down there if we can and see whether or not this ship of yours actually works." Gabriel started down the hall.

She followed, ripping out a rifle from an auxiliary compartment in the wall. Sarah was prepared to kill anyone that stood in their way. Gunshots. Detonations. It could be heard on the other side of the heavy blast door that separated the core systems from the rest of the facility. It opened slightly, and a man climbed through. It shut, locking. "Sarah?" He said, stumbling toward them. It was only then that they realized it was Johnathan. "Oh thank god." She said, giving him a quick hug. "We need to get out of here, and fast. The reactors going to detonate and the city..." "-blam!-. Okay. How long?" "Six minutes?" "That's not a lot of time." "I know. But if we can access that old ship we got, we should be able to get out of here. I know it's not the best, but it's something." The got to moving, the facility slowly falling apart. "WARNING: Reactor Unstable. Time until meltdown: Four minutes." And then the started to run. [spoiler]I know it's kind of dragging, but it's getting there.[/spoiler]
