The arrow disappeared in its flight towards the approaching figure, seemingly turning into nothing before hitting him. Although the rushing spearman would jump into action too quick to notice the eroded remains of the arrow laying on the ground, quickly sinking into the soil where strange moss and clovers began to sprout...
Just as the spearhead neared the advancing shadow, there was a blur of movement, like the mist weaving itself to conceal the stranger. The shaft below the head was yanked forward, pulling the Mangy deeper into the mist before something hard drove itself into the small attacker's stomach - the polished tip of a black dress shoe.
If I misunderstood and the spearman didn't advance, I can just retcon and say the stranger moved forward to meet him.
And dw I don't plan on one-shotting these lil guys, consider this just a setup
But that would be all that it would see of the stranger.
THUNK!
Its spearhead found a mark. Suddenly, the fishman was facing a large mushroom, two times his size. In its stalk was the Mangy's weapon, driven deep into it.
Crimson fluid dropped from the wound of the mushroom. Blood, maybe? It boiled at the air and evaporated into vapour, which immediately surrounded the Mangy and paralyzed him upon breathing.
To the remaining two, it would look like the red mist had filled where their comrade had went. Like the stains of blood lifted from the reflection of water and into the air.
