"Hell yeah," she said, taking it, "That'll work nicely. Now. We need to-"
There was a rumble, and the power flickered, alarms starting to go off.
"Holy shit. They're bombing us. They know where we are. We need to get to the mainframe before-"
Another blast made it shake.
"...they damage the reactor and end up leveling the entire Outer District."

"We gotta get those defenses back online..." Gabriel put away his handgun, opting for his 12 gauge shotgun, infused with electric rounds instead. "Which way are we going, Sarah?" Gabriel looked over at the woman, his eyes darting between her and the the three Gunners.
-
"There's a tunnel that leads to the mainframe. This way." She gestured, to a way opposite the gunners. "Don't worry. We have enough people here to hold them back. At least they won't get to the core." She moved over to a small hatch in the ground. "Here. Can you help me with this? I would say that we go the main way, but if they follow us..."
-
"Yeah, yeah. No need to explain it to me." Gabriel placed his shotgun on the ground, helping Sarah open up the hatch.
-
They opened it, heading inside to investigate. After climbing down, they found themselves in an old maintenance hallway. Dim red lighting illuminated it, and on the other end was a secured, high-tech bulkhead door. Another shake.
-
"How far into your base is this thing?" Gabriel moved down the maintenance hallway toward the door, keeping an eye out for anything suspicious.
-
"We have access terminals everywhere," She elaborated, moving toward the bulkhead. "But the actual mainframe is in the center, in the core facility. That's also where the reactor is." She came to a dull keypad. "Hm. I wonder if it still works." After typing a few numbers, two hand scanners came online on either side. "Dammit."
-
"So..." Gabriel looked over his shoulder down the hallway from where they had come. "How the hell do we keep going? Looks like we need another person with us. '
-
"We don't have enough-" She was cut off by another blast, this time setting off alarms inside the tunnel. The scanners deactivated and a manual over switch was revealed. "Shit. They damaged something. We need to get down there. Pull the lever will ya?"
-
"Pull the lever, kronk!" Gabriel said with a sharp laugh, pulling the lever that had revealed itself. And laughing at the ridiculously outdated reference.
-
She actually smiled at that, as the bulkhead door slid open. It revealed what looked to a chasm, possibly part of a cave system. A part of the facility that had yet to be fully built. A heavily shielded door on the far side would led to the core area.
-
"Well then..." Gabriel took a step forward, mindful of the gap in the chasm. "Any ides for this? I might have a... Actually no. Nothing for things like this."
-
"Umm. I'm not sure." She said, looking around. I think there's a panel nearby. Actives something. Let's have a look around. Check the walls."
-
"Gotcha." Gabriel moved backwards, looking around the walls of the maintenance tunnel for the panel Sarah was referring to.
-
He would encounter something, a small dip in the wall. A hidden panel on the wall's side.
-
"Hey, I think I may have found it." Gabriel slipped his hand into the dip in the wall, pressing his hand against the walls.
-
It would have ripped open to reveal a small electrical panel branded with an unknown logo. "Hey!" She said, "You found it!" Sarah moved over to it, prying off the metal cover and taking out a small circular device. She put it on the main electrical pipeline, and the outer ring started to spin. Construction lights came on, and a rusty metal bridge started to form. "Holy shit, I didn't think that would actually w-" Another blast stopped the process and ended up knocking the half of the bridge on the far side off, which fell in to the abyss. "Great. Now what?" She looked at the wall below where the bridge was, looking at the material. "You up for a little bit of climbing?"
-
"... Climbing?" Gabriel asked, looking over the edge of the abyss and back up to the other side. "Might as well... I'll follow your lead."
-
She took out what looked to be highly advanced... picks? "Here. Take these." She said, handing him a pair "Follow my lead." She stationed herself just before where the bridge started, and sprinted across it. Once she hit the edge, she jumped, her picks impaling themselves into the rock just a little bit below. Sarah, miraculously, managed to climb up. "Now, I know it's not ideal, and you'll be relying on complete upper body strength. But it's better than nothing."
-
"Really?!" Gabriel prepped himself, sprinting across the part of the bridge that had come out and leaping from the edge. His picks slammed into the wall, and his body shook from the impact.
-
Eventually, her would have stabilized, starting to climb up. After getting near the top, however, another tremor would cause him to drop one of his picks. "Shit." Sarah said, rocks starting to fall from above at a rapid rate. "Give me your hand. You're going to have to jump a little. Ready?"
-
"Yes, I'm ready... And you damn well better catch me." Gabriel pulled himself up in a swift motion, jumping into the air and reaching for Sarah.
-
She caught him just in time, yanking him up and above the edge. Once he was back on solid ground, Sarah looked at up at the cavern ceiling. It was... collapsing. Caving in. "Run!" She said, bolting for the door, which was opened easily. Unlocked, but by whom?
-
Gabriel didn't have time wonder about anything like that. He stumbled to his feet and sprinted toward the door, running through it and following after Sarah.

Edited by Kruos the Wicked: 1/31/2018 1:05:49 AMShe shut the door, hearing one last rumble before it stopped completely. "Shit man." She said, taking a look around the dark hallway. "That was close. We should be near the mainframe now. Hopefully we can manage to turn it on. Or at least, make sure that nothing's... damaged. She moved to a section in the wall, feeling for a button. Sarah pressed down, and the door to a control room overlooking some sort of chamber. It was dark, only illuminated by a blue beam of light in the center. "Zoe?" She called out, looking around frantically. After a few moments, a little girl peeked out from behind one of the consoles. About nine years old, with white hair, pale skin, and blue eyes, Zoe ran out from her hiding place to Sarah in an instant. "Oh thank god you're okay."
-
"Uh... Sarah?" Gabriel looked between herself and Zoe curiously. "You mind introducing me to your friend here? Maybe tell me why she's in a cave?"
