So Tuesday comes around, and with it comes the Nightfall changes and the new emblems. The Nightfall changes were, for the most part, something that was anticipated. The emblems in my opinion—although it's understandable to wish that something else was worked on instead—were a great idea and the stat tracking could've been the replacement for that sweet, sweet Grimiore score of D1. To me this update had everything good going for it.
Until it didn't
Now we have a normal Nightfall that has no modifiers, and we have emblems (Victorius Veteran and Glory of the Emperor) that don't even properly track the stats that the developers took the time to get these emblems to track.
What I want to discuss is the fact that once again, we had to wait until we had the update in our hands and until people noticed and started to question and complain for our CMs to tell us (paraphrasing here) "Working in such a manner because reason X". I am tired of the reactive communication. Bungie stated that they were going to give us proactive heads up, and I was expecting it to last. What a fool I was.
About the No-Modifier Normal Nightfall
In the 2/08 TWAB, the talking points from neither Tyson Green nor John Favaro explicitly stated that the old Nightfall modifiers were being removed, though with the removal of the time limit it was pretty obvious that at least the modifiers related to the time limit would be removed too. Favaro talked about the new Prestige modifiers, but who would think that bringing in new modifiers for the Prestige difficulty would strip normal Nightfall of its own modifiers? Especially since as far back as I've played and remember (I started back in D1 between TDB and HoW) Nightfall has always had modifiers. One can argue that the removal of all modifiers was alluded to because of a sentence down towards the bottom of the TWAB:
You can complete the normal Nightfall and get a score, or you can take on the Prestige Nightfall and ratchet up your score with some modifiers.
Nonetheless, I am disappointed that neither of these two individuals decided to explicitly state, "With these changes to the Nightfall activity, we are removing all modifiers from the normal difficulty Nightfall."
About the Kind-of Tracking Emblems
I think a Destiny Reddit user really summed up my feelings on these emblems. Before this, I thought the developers at Bungie weren't giving the CMs the tools they need to succeed. Now I'm not even sure if the developers are giving themselves the tools theyneed to succeed.
Why weren't the issues with the new Crucible emblem and the Leviathan Prestige Raid emblem mentioned by Senior Design Lead Tyson Green in the 2/22 TWAB? He had a chance to give us a heads up about the Crucible emblem and the Prestige Raid emblem and he didn't. Why didn't he? I think that as the Senior Design Lead, he would know the status of these kinds of developments.

Yep, this is a failure on my part. In the process of collecting patch notes and getting ready for release, I missed high priority items like the ones you mentioned above. This also includes a revision of the patch notes to include Fireteam members being visible on Destination Map. Moving forward, I am looking to be much more proactive on known issues. Some bugs were filed, but weren't on my radar. Others were documented, but in a place that I wasn't tuned in to. We've held a meeting internally to note some pain points in our processes leading to release - which we plan to address prior to 1.1.4 and 1.2.0. I'll be more in tune with our test and design teams, leading to stronger communications and releases. Cheers, -dmg

I know the people I play with hate that all modifiers were removed from both nightfalls and all you can do for prestige is reduce your light level and add a burn. Then the 6 points a second score loss that is on your scoring as well. Get it done at the 15:00 min mark, you’ve lost 5400 points (a little less since you haven’t kill someone in the first few seconds). I was under the assumption that it would be more like the scoring from the reef. Take too long start losing points. Not always be losing points and get less points as the timer counts up. Everyone I played with complained about it as soon as it started. And they had no complaints about the old nightfall system at all. One run of regular nightfall all my friends who still played D2 were done. They’re not coming back till at least May (if at all) now where they might see where the game is at with the expansion. They used to log on every Tuesday to do the nightfall and prestige on all chars and I’d have a bunch of peeps to run with, sadly I have none now, and have nothing else left to do in the game till expansion since I *HATE* playing solo. Thanks for ruining friendship with this patch! 👏👏👏👏👏👏 Don’t know why you just couldn’t add in the new system as an alternate way to do the nightfall, and then see over the coming months which mode was played more and gone with that way come the expansion. Or keep both so not to alienate sections of the user base. Don’t know why at times it seems like you ignore what a lot of users like just for what other users complain about, to just then react to the complaints about the changes by reversing them to just change them again. It’s caused me to have gone from 30 friends playing the game everyday to ZERO. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Still like the upcoming changes but this one, imo, missed the boat by a long shot. Might log on again for IB before May’s expansion, but playing that solo is a kick in the nards.

Bungie cannot make this stuff up. 'Items on the "roadmap" have been delayed to ensure they work as intended' Okay, I guess. 'Here are some emblems (that NO ONE asked for) and your "updated" Nightfall.' What a surprise, neither of them "work as intended".

I think that this comes under the heading "-blam!- it. I'm late for the gym ... what do you mean people still play this?!"
-
Very well written. This update really has shown the extent to which Bungie constantly misses the mark and does not know their player base. I feel most sorry for all those guardians who have lost their clears in the raid or trials. It's even worse that you now have to wear the emblem to show the aura. A complete embarrassment and total shambles.

Okay... So now I've done the nightfall. Thank god rat king is out of my inventory. yes... It's been there the whole damn time because everyone fell off before we got it done. Shame on me I know. Now that I've experienced the nightfall though, I kinda understand why they did it, but it did go too far in my opinion. Nightfall now feels like a slightly harder strike, so much so that it kinda doesn't have it's place - except maybe as an easier clear for those that couldn't complete it before. But I think Bungie misread the community, I know me and my friends hated the timer - not the difficulty. Removing the rest of it doesn't make sense unless the actual goal was to bring the posts closer for those less skilled. I'm gathering the prestige nightfall is going to feel a bit more like the actual nightfall now. I might never know though... even tonight we had to do the nightfall as 2 people, getting just three is hard now.

I'm tired of Bungie still not knowing how to fix this mess. The roadmap looked good at first, but it doesn't fix any of the reasons the game is in such a bad state. Besides, they end up Bungifying the changes before release so they never end up being as good as they first sounded.
-
Another failed attempt in my opinion. Most of the complainers who wanted the time limit removed already left the game. It would be a pretty good assumption that those of us who enjoyed the nightfall setup before they implemented "prison of elders" are not happy now. Yes, I fall into that group. Bungie has successfully screwed the rest of us who were loyal to the game. They are too stupid to learn from their mistakes and continue to shit on their loyal supporters. Just my two cents... My comments will fall on deaf ears as I am just one person ... My loyalty was rewarded by a game mode I enjoyed playing being replaced by a game mode I despise playing...

Keep this post high! We need this pinned for about a week straight!!

Bump, because this is the kind of post people claim don't exist. *cough *cough Lost Sols *cough And you didn't even have to be condescending, like a truly partial person. But, I digress, this reactionary communication is getting tiring, and that's an understatement. I truly don't care for these updates. I haven't even considered getting on Destiny 2 (and that was before the issues were shown) due to this. Bungie, at this rate, will never get my good will back.
-
I’m gonna have to take your word on this since I haven’t played in a while. From what you’ve described, I’d have to agree with you. If Bungie is going to change the way an activity works then they need to be upfront about it before hand. They just can’t drop a patch that removes/changes a feature/function and not say something. They keep saying that they are trying to get better at communicating with us but they keep making the same mistake over and over again.
-
I am still liking Destiny 2 in general but stuff like this is incredibly annoying. Here Bungie I've made a 3-point quick checklist to run by every new change whenever you want to talk about it. - things that stay but changed - things added - things removed
-
... ok I’m at a loss for words now. They removed every modifier?? That’s such a hamfisted approach. I’m usually positive but this feels way out of touch, but not out of character for how the game has been handled thus far.

Bungie is a front for the best janitors money can buy
-
Serious question here. Why are you still bothering with this mess?
-
They took all modifiers off of the normal NF? What?
-
Bump. Stuff like this needs to be addressed.
