This is something I have thought of and I can say this could possibly be the one thing that is missing from the entire Destiny franchise. It is been said over and over again and beaten to death. REWARDS THAT MATTER.
And it’s not just about weapons and armor and shader and emblems and ships and sparrows and ghosts being showered or buffed..........it’s about the how we get them, where we get them and how they fit into the world.
1. Bring back loot drops altogether. Raid and trials drops are cool. Drops in cruicble are cool as well. They make us feel rewarded. Like we accomplished something after these battles. The engram system is does not make us feel rewarded. Plus, we are taken out of the fun too often to figure out what we got.
2. Strike based Loot: strikes offer this avenue to unique experiences. A special story that should has story based implications to them (I.e. curse of Osiris strikes). However there is no real reason to do the strikes unless you playing with friends or getting ornaments which don’t do anything but change appearance of your armor. Creating strike specific loot should offer us weapons and armor that, not only have a unique loot, but also create loot that offer effects and abilities of the enemies we beat. And, you can do it in an amazing way. Allow us to farm the bosses for pieces. That adds replay ability to the strikes, we stay in the game, and we have something to play for.
3. Vendor loot: the token system isn’t really a bad thing. It streamlined going to vendors and you are rewarded by those vendors for doing activities specific to them. Vanguard/Strikes, Shaxx/Crucible, factions/Rally, Devrim/Edz, etc. They all have an entire world dedicated to them. So, all do the rewards they have should be tied to their planets and the token system should be used to unlock rewards by reaching certain levels. Each vendor should have a few exotic items that incentivize doing their specific activities. Why can’t we get an exotic sniper from Devrim? Why can’t Zavala give some special exotic class item for reaching a specific level in his vanguard rankings? These are the kind of rewards that would make us keep playing. And PLEASE remove that random list of weapons that will drop from any vendor. Just let those weapons come from the gunsmith or just out in the world. (Those legendary ones that are in every loot pool.).
4. Trials, Iron Banner exotic weapons and armor pieces. Yes, this should be a thing. And they should fall outside of the seasons as loot to earn. Why has there no my been a single exotic weapon from Iron Banner, the world may never know. And trials should have rewards you can only receive from going flawless or, just playing the game. Have a weapon or two that has some sort of crazy utility in Trials hat makes I a must get for PVP players. Iron Banner should literally allow us to play for Saladin’s Axe yo......lets get real.
I believe this will bring players back to the game. It will
Keep players invested into the game. Don’t be afraid of power. Make the game so wild and full of things to do and earn and grind that we don’t have the time to stop and go.....MAN THESE GUNS ARE WAY TOO STRONG. Just let the world grab us. The more meaningful chases we have, the better off the game will be. Power Power and more Power. What drew us to Destiny was the power and the loot. Add some randomness to the perks (though I like fixed rolls myself, I believe there needs to be a set of guns that are random and the stronger ones have fixed rolls.). Make the perks wild and the random rolled guns the ones that could be found anywhere as drops but vendor weapons perform a specific way and all of them have amazing perks on them, in theory.
