3DS Thoughts?

Worth It

Not Worth It

Recently I've been debating whether to pick up a 3DS. I really liked some of the GBA titles, and want to revisit those series. I can also afford to spend the couple hundred dollars without too much trouble. Is the 3DS good? How are the new Fire Emblem and Pokémon games? For reference the last ones I played were Sacred Stones and Emerald, respectively. Edit: Who down voted? This isn't exactly an objectionable thread. Update: I just ordered a 2DS XL. Should be a good time.

  • If youre going for Pokémon and Fire Emblem an 3DS probably will be fine for you. For Pokémon there is the 6th and 7th Gen available as well as the first two gens (download only though). Gen 6 has the games X and Y and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The first are new games the latter remakes of the third generation. Recommend both, but ORAS is way bigger and if you had to choose get one either OR or AS. The 7th Gen of Pokémon felt like a kind of reboot or spin-off, since the region and trials instead of gyms were very unfamiliar to me. The gameplay didnt change though. Recommend to buy Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, because they have more to offer than normal Sun Moon and the story doesnt differ too much that its noteworthy. The available Fire Emblem games are Awakening, Fates and Echoes: Shadows of Valentia as well as the spin-off Fire Emblem Warriors. I dont recommend the last though, since its awful on the 3DS. Awakening basically saved the series. It is a good game, but has its weaknesses, like the not so great story and its easy difficulty. Yet I definately recommend it. Fates is... well long story... lets start with its 3 paths/storys. If you want a chilled game get Birthright since its easy as -blam!-. If you want a challenge and the best maps get Conquest (and I mean a challenge). If you want the "real" conclusion of everything in the story and all characters get Revelation (which you can only buy if you have one of the other two). The story itself is bullshit. Its weak, the main character dull and the plotholes and weird decisions are endless. The gameplay on the other hand is amazing imo. I cant really complain about it. I kinda recommend it, but only for the gameplay and only Revelation, since I like to have all available characters Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a special case. Its an remake of Fire Emblem: Gaiden the second entry of the series. While the base gameplay doesnt change there are some unfamiliar changes like no weapon triangle, 5+ attack range archers, grinding (yup grinding), dungeon crawling (im serious) and third tier promotions. Yet imo all of these are great. And its the first FE that has FULL voice acting and OMFG is it good! I played through the game several times already and its the first game I dont skip scenes, because I adore the voice acting so much! Definately recommend this gem!! Wow that turned out way longer than expected... If you even read this far thank you and dont feel afraid of asking more questions if you have some ^_^
