My clan has 71 people. before the DLC maybe three people on max at a time. After the DLC maybe 6 people max (Bungie counts that as 100% improvement in player base) last week. Right now - zero.
As for levelling up, there is no middle ground with these guys, you are correct. Yes it was too easy before. That was more a reflection on the content than the rewards. Now the rewards are pretty bad for most things. You're forced to raid or trials. If XB achievements are any measure, raiders/trials players are less than 20% of the player base. The raid is not that fun.
I agree, if you want to make D2 a job you can level up fairly quick (although I wonder what those already near max will do once they hit it). But other than weekly milestones there just doesn't seem to be much reason to hop on too often. I'm trying to find lost memories - not using any guide. Sure it's killing time. I got my sword. But it's not exactly that "alien killing" content I prefer. Same with the music boxes (especially considering how many repeats I'm getting) so I can fill in an emblem? Meaningful content there I tell ya.
I had well over 500 hrs on XB1, with a few raids. I switched to PC and have nearly 200 hrs on that platform (only one raid, just wanted to see it on PC). I have enjoyed the game. I am not complaining about value either. More than enough hours for the money I've spent. (I never spent a cent on eververse, and I never will.) But I just can't see myself coming back until September each week, If I do it'll be the non-raid milestones then done.
I certainly won't be purchasing the Sept update until a few weeks have gone by and I can read the tea leaves about how people feel first.
