Bosses and knockback attacks.

Most bosses in the game posses a knockback mechanic, or similar. These features dissuade close quarter combat and limit slightly the ways to approach a boss fight. I can see how allowing players to freely attack at close range would upset the balance of the boss fight. However, having the same copy and pasted mechanic on every boss gets both annoying and boring. Instead, what if bosses had unique thought out and interesting mechanics to punish being close to a boss. If any other mechanic took the knockback's place on every boss, it too would be annoying and boring. The game needs variety, depth, and difficulty on each boss. I would rather not be simply pushed back from most bosses, I want better mechanics to make the game more enjoyable while still both allowing for all types of gameplay, and giving all types of gameplay a challenge. Take for example the “Air Crackles around you” mechanic from Regicide in D1. It in my opinion is a great unique feature to get players out of cover and into combat. However if every boss forced you out of cover in the same way, it would be annoying and boring. If only some bosses added difficulty by using the knockback mechanic, I wouldn't be complaining because it would mean other bosses have unique ways of making CQB a challenge.
