Why is this the part of character development you choose to focus on? There are so many problems with story telling and yet this is the point people like you choose to point out as the a main problem. The point is a distractions from an actualy problem. I get what you are trying to say but you say it poorly and you are wrongly asserting that this is the biggest problem with story telling.
