Thank you for putting your personal prejudices on display. What you just did is called a "double-standard"...and it is one of the more subtle ways in which prejudice manifests itself. NOWHERE in that diatribe did you ever hold being HETEROSEXUAL to the same standard. Amanda Holliday is a openly HETEROSEXUAL woman in this story....and it becomes a focal point during the Lake of Shadows strike when she's cooing like a schoolgirl with a bad case of the hornies while she's listening to Commander Zavala and Devrim Kaye's deep baritone voices over the comms. The cooing is so obnoxious that Zavala has to ask her to go away so that they can run the mission. The Ana Bray comic isn't "forced diversity" (as if there is such a thing anywhere except in the mind of a bigot). IT ANSWERS A FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION OF ANY WAR OR ARMED CONFLICT: ***WHY ARE WE FIGHTING**. A question that went unanswered (on an emotional level) in Destiny 1, and that is now finally being addressed (I wish I had a dollar for everytime someone came here and complained "I feel no emotional connection to the City.") The comic is showing and telling you all the reasons why one of the Vanguard's greatest heroes FIGHTS. Whether its with her Golden Gun...OR WITH HER MIND in terms of trying to reconstruct her past and reclaim the Golden Age technology that her family pioneered. Like most people who go to war, THEY FIGHT TO PROTECT THE THINGS...AND THE PEOPLE...THEY LOVE. The Sword of Life. They are willing to die, so that OTHERS might live in peace and safety. It only happens to be---in this case---one of the people she loves happens to be another woman..AND YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THAT. Well GET OVER IT. Because I gaurentee you that many of the people who are now fighting for you around the globe in the US military are gay....and are fighting to protect a loved one of the same sex....and are hoping to come home safely to that person. That's the real world. ...and Art Imitates Life. The world you seen to want doesn't actually exist. ITs more fictional than the one you are complaining about being shown to you.

  • Yeah. This "forced diversity" stuff... while I disagree with you on the question of its existence, people need to stop complaining. A) Bungie made a conscious choice to add in a homosexual character. No one forced them to. B) They story doesn't write itself... Bungie puts in the characters and has to develop them. Race, gender, religion, and sexuality are fundamental parts of our identity, so it makes sense that Bungie would touch upon them while developing a character. C) Last one is a question. How many would complain if she was heterosexual? Plenty of games and stories have a protagonist in a heterosexual relationship, no one complains. In relation to what you said about "why they fight," this reminded me about a book called "The Things They Carried." It's about Vietnam and what the soldiers physically and mentally carried. A HUGE focus of the book was their relationships. All of which where heterosexual, as per usual in 20th century US military. So, should we hate it for "forced conformity?" (Term I made up to counter forced diversity. Like I said, nothing such as sexuality comes naturally to a story. It's used to develop a character. As such, using heterosexual characters or other majorities, according to their logic, is forced conformity)

  • There's just as much evidence to suggest life imitates art as there is to suggest art imitates life. It's an age old philosophical question to ask which one it really is. Homosexuality is an extreme minority. Destiny would certainly not be a good example of art imitating real life. And that fact has nothing to do with whether LGBT is right or wrong.

Homosexulity is a minority that is part of the normal range of human variation. With a prevalence somewhere between that of being Jewish, and that of being Native American in the US population. Ana Bray---if you look at her---is clearly someone who is of "Amer-Asian" descent. Yet no one insists that her benig part Asian is "forced diversity" and need to JUSTIFY its existence. Ikora Rey is African-American...and no one is saying (openly) that her being Black has to "justify" its presence in the story and her being in a position of leadership and responsibility doesn't "reflect life". Oh and Destiny does imitate Life in that Guardians have been pulled from the full range of the human family. Not just Europeans. Straight people or men.

  • Very well said. It says more about someone's world view and circle of friends that they feel inclusion of diversity is forced. Especially in a world post collapse. As if lgbtq and minorities can't survive as well as white males "because".

Does that say something about your world view and circle of friends?

Because that's the dominant group....and the group that preferentially holds power if you live in any European country, or country that is a former European immigrant nation (US, Canada, Australia, etc..). That isnt "prejudice". That's demographic reality in 2018.

The countries you mention are democracies comprising elected representatives of established political parties, not a bunch of white male social clubs. Do the names Angela Merkel, Theresa May, Julia Gillard, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor or a bit close to home for me, Arlene foster or Mary Lou McDonald mean anything to you? European and former European 'immigrant' countries, as you put it, will tend to have demographics skewed towards large white populations because . . . shock horror, Europeans tend/tended to be white. And all the countries you mention do not actively discriminate against their non white populations. That's political reality 2018.

  • Look up which ethnic group makes up the majority...defines the cultural standard...and controls the wealth. Demographic. Reality.

  •
Look up which ethnic group makes up the majority...defines the cultural standard...and controls the wealth. Demographic. Reality.
The 'cultural standard' of any country gets laid down at the point the country is established and evolves alongside the population, it can be held by any member of the population no matter who they are. The world is not one big homogeneous group of people. The culture of any country will follow the largest group within any population demographic, that's common sense. I don't agree with the term 'cultural standard' I think cultural heritage would be a fairer way to put it. " . . . and controls the wealth"? This is a really silly thing to say, how do you explain poor people who fall within the majority demographic. I really need you to define exactly which ethnic group you believe holds all this power and abuses it the detriment of, again, which group?

...and whatever doesn't look like me, or presents the world as I prefer to see it, needs to "justify" its inclusion. The only "justification" necessary is that The Traveller picked Guardians based on their ability to wield the Light as a weapon.....and that's it. So the assumption that this means that everyone who got picked by The Traveller is going to be white, male, heterosexual, and Christian says more about the person making the assumption, than it does about the storytelling. Because simple probabilities would mean that a SHIT TON of Guardians would be coming from OTHER parts of the Human family...and not from what is (in terms of global reality) a MINORITY of the Human population.

  • Exactly. That only becomes moreso when you add in the awoken and exos. Where was this video about cayde? Clearly adding an exo to the vanguard was forced diversity. One if the things I love about destiny is that the only white character I can think of at the moment is the one I made. And she was my third character after an exo Titan and awoken warlock. Holliday is the only one I can come up with.
