Diversity isn't the issue here. Bad writing is the issue. I don't know why you or the furry in thar video have to bring diversity into this, but let me be real for a second. A lot of writing sucks, and it just so happens that a lot of bad writing happens to be done by people who value diversity in their writing. A lot of these people are fresh out of college 20-30 something year olds who are eager to put their voice out there, and they had no one did them the kindness of telling them their writing needs work.
This has a number of reasons, one of them being, as far as I can tell from my experience, that people are afraid to criticise poor writing and when left unchecked these poor writers spread their poor writing skill. The entertainment community has lost its teeth and as a result we have people who can't connect with people writing stories centered around people and sitting at the developmental helm of multimillion dollar projects. These people have passable writing skills at best, and nobody calls them out on it, and we're left with an echo chamber of bad ideas and tropes and cliches.
You wonder why there are so many poorly written female characters out there? It's not because people focus on diversity, it's because people who don't know how to write are writing these characters and inspiring others who don't know how to write who then go on to make more poorly written stories.
Heaping "clever banter" and "quips" into your writing won't help it if it's in shambles. I read the comic, and it was serviceable, but it wasn't great, Ana being a lesbian didn't make the comic any more or less interesting, it was just a side note in a by the books webtoon. That's not good. I want this story to grab me, I want more, but all I got was...meh.

Forced diversity is a large portion of the issue that stems from overall bad writing.

Be honest kiddo. You have made it very clear that "forced diversity" is a liberal conspiracy. You're hiding your bigotry behind this "bad writing" crap. Everyone knows the writing is bad. The character development is worse. That you chose to focus on 1 frame of 1 page speaks volumes. You openly admit you hate leftys and are tired of minority groups getting special treatment. Just be honest with yourself. Embrace your ignorance.
Forced diversity is a large portion of the issue that stems from overall bad writing.
Care to elaborate friend? Because there doesn't seem to be any "Forced diversity" present in Destiny 2. But maybe I'm just desensitized to this.

Edited by King Nate: 7/12/2018 11:00:21 PMI’m going to use Ana Bray as an example. If you’re going to make a character LGBTQ+, it needs to contribute to their story, not just be there for the intention of marketing and profit. In this way, it seems out of place and therefore forced upon us with a leftist agenda. In a better story, Ana Bray can still be a lesbian character, but her kissing another girl isn’t the obvious point the story revolves around. More, there are other actions unfolding, and Ana being lesbian is just a background trait to add character. This way it isn’t out of place, but it still gives a feeling of equality and character. Edit: I would make an exception if Destiny were a romance story, but I think most people would see romance of any kind in Destiny as a distraction from shooting aliens.
I’m going to use Ana Bray as an example. If you’re going to make a character LGBTQ+, it needs to contribute to their story, not just be there for the intention of marketing and profit.
I think it's pretty cynical to look at this as a way for Bungie to make a quick buck. I don't personally see it this way, especially when you consider that: 1. Ana being a lesbian isn't really a major plot point to anyone who just plays the game. Most people have no idea that Ana Bray is a lesbian. 2. It's not like Bungie made a big banner and demanded back pats for making a character gay. They just did it and moved on. With that out of the way, I want to ask you this. Do you view heterosexual relationships in the same way as you do LGBTQ+ relationships? Because everytime one of these threads comes up I notice that heterosexual relationships aren't held to the same standard.
In this way, it seems out of place and therefore forced upon us with a leftist agenda
. Now we're getting to the meat and potatoes of this whole issue. Bungie isn't putting gay people into their games as part of some plot to get everyone to lean left. If you view something as insignificant as a gay character showing up in your video games as "leftist propaganda" being forced upon you, I would examine why you think that.
In a better story, Ana Bray can still be a lesbian character, but her kissing another girl isn’t the obvious point the story revolves around.
She kissed a girl for like, two pages. Only the most moral of pearl clutching moral busy bodies is bothered by this. If you think the story revolves around her being gay, it really doesn't.
More, there are other actions unfolding, and Ana being lesbian is just a background trait to add character. This way it isn’t out of place, but it still gives a feeling of equality and character.
It is in the background. Ana isn't hitting on every lady guardian in game, and until the forums pitched a fit about it I didn't know she was gay at all. This doesn't seem like forced diversity, this seems like people are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Edit: I would make an exception if Destiny were a romance story, but I think most people would see romance of any kind in Destiny as a distraction from shooting aliens.
Cayde has romantic interests, they're present in grimoire and he off handedly mentions it in Destiny, they don't distract me from shooting aliens.
