But that doesn't make any sense. They decided to make a relationship a part of the story, so who the other person is does have bearing on it. The gender of the other person shouldn't matter, but apparently to some people it does. Are you suggesting that it would have been better to just never give the identity of her partner? I fail to see how that makes a romantic story better.
It's one thing to say that the story shouldn't have had a romance element to it (personally I would have preferred that), but it's entirely different to say that they shouldn't reveal anything about the second half of the romance. That's kind of an important element.
