It's actually noticing a specific feature of something versus noticing a specific feature of something.
In 2015 about 3.5% of the population in America identified as lesbian, gay, or bisexual, which is a pathetically low number considering how much of a deal people make out of it just about everywhere you look these days, like Destiny for example. In Destiny a lot of the characters have turned out to be either lesbian or gay, granted Destiny takes place in its own universe so one could argue things from that standpoint, but it's still an unusually high frequency considering realistic stats, which is why people are taking notice. It has NOTHING to do with "wide spread bigotry".
As for me, I don't really care either way, though I have noticed the trend going on and I do find it a little odd when comparing it to the number of openly or otherwise obviously homosexual people that I encounter on a day to day basis.
