The Nightmare
Saitonia opens his eyes. He is free-floating in a black abyss. But the abyss isn’t empty. A chilling wind blows, making his hands and feet numb. Black tendrils chaotically wind in and out of sight. Black clouds float through space. He looks down at himself, just to find that he isn’t there at all. In place of his body is a mass of swirling black tendrils.
Thunder cracks. A dark serpent figure made of the tendrils appears before him.
“Approach!” the Snake commands.
Out of his control, Saitonia floats toward the creature. A tingling sensation ensues throughout his body. He looks down, and sees that the tendrils are still there. This makes him a bit uneasy, but they aren’t harming him. The Snake spoke to him in a slow, screeching voice.
“Your kind is smart. Cunning. Just like me. You have potential. But you bow to different universal laws. You seek to learn from the past in hope of a better future. Time is not what you should focus on, as it is out of your control.”
The Snake vanishes, but the tendrils remain, floating through the abyss. They make a cracking sound as they move, seemingly randomly through the abyss. But they seemed to move with a purpose, he just doesn’t know that purpose at the time. The Snake cannot be seen, but her voice can be heard.
“This is the final form. The pinnacle of Space. All timelines for your universe end here. Form does not suit the most...cunning species who want to endure until the end. So we resort to formlessness, the supreme way of existence. You resort to form now, but the line between Entropy and Matrix is very thin now, yes? Do you know which side you are on?”
Suddenly, Saitonia drops into the abyss. He screams, flailing his arms around, trying to find something to grab on to. A tendril of blackness appears before him. He grabs it, but it dissolves into dust in his hand. He continues to fall, until he hits a flat, black ground. His body is smothered, Saitonia is dead. The black floor disappears beneath his mutilated body, which continues to fall aimlessly into the abyss. It falls for a massive distance before coming to a stop in mid-air.
The Snake appears again, Before Saitonia’s lifeless body.
“It seems your journey has come to an end too soon, yes? The Entropy does not abide by the conventional laws of life and death.”
A green glow, and Saitonia’s body hums with energy. His body shakes, and the glow intensifies, and continues to, until his body explodes in a ball of green light. Where Saitonia’s mutilated body was, seconds ago, Saitonia stands, alive again. He tries to scream, but he can’t open his mouth.
“Welcome to the Formless Realm. A great war of cosmic proportions looms on the horizon. This is just the beginning. But for something to begin, something else must...end, yes?”
Everything goes dark for a few seconds. Saitonia opens his eyes. He is sitting strait up in his bed, dripping in a cold sweat. The sound of thunder booms outside his window. He tries to recall his nightmare, but he finds nothing. He lays back down, and closes his eyes.
