[i]Chapter Twenty: The Master[/i] Part Five “Here ya are, sir,” one of the cooks slid a bowl in front of me. Steam rose from the ramen inside, and my eyes watered from the wonderful and spicy scent. “And this is good?” I looked to Drew for console. “Of course!” he declared, “I can’t believe you’ve never tried food before! It’s the best thing in the universe!” “Alright,” I picked up the utensils used to eat the ramen and tried fitting them in my hand right. Apparently the two little wooden sticks were called “chopsticks”. “You are gonna be so glad I got you this as your Striker celebration gift,” Drew chuckled, helping me position the chopsticks. I stuck the tips into the mess of string-like food and, after several tries, managed to come up with a couple bits. Tentatively, I brought them to my lips and plopped it all into my mouth. I gasped in surprise and my feet kicked in delight as flavor burst into my mouth and the noodles warmed my tongue. “A-AMA-AMAZING!” I shouted through the food in my mouth, unaccustomed to trying to communicate while holding things in my mouth. The cooks and a couple of the other customers seemed amused by my childlike enthusiasm. “Told ya,” Drew laughed as I struggled to shovel as much as I could into my mouth, “Make sure you chew it enough before swallowing so you don’t choke. I’m gonna get us some beers at the bar over there. You’re gonna love this!” “Hawa asa…” I tried talking, but had to stop to swallow, “Hey wait a second. I just remembered that Sally once said you drank oils. Wouldn’t that taste horrible since you have the same taste pallet as humans?” “Master Drew tries drinking almost anything he can get in a cup,” Sally explained, floating close to me so she could be heard over the bustling people around us, “It’s like a challenge to him, and he likes strong and bad flavors for some reason.” “Love some kick to my drinks,” Drew gave me a thumbs up, “Oils and sludges definitely don’t beat some strong alcoholic beverages, though.” “You’re so lucky you have an Exo digestive system,” I shook my head disapprovingly, “Not to mention Guardian abilities for if you have something really bad.” “We are so having eggnog together next Dawning,” Drew clapped me on the shoulder. “Thank you for the food, Master Drew,” I grinned, indulging him one last time. “Best. Day. Ever,” Drew was pleased, “You have done well, my apprentice. The Master is gonna get those drinks now.” As soon as the Titan left I went back to shoving ramen into my face. I was so fixated that I didn’t even notice someone take a seat next to me. “Excuse me?” a male voice with a mechanical tone asked, and I looked up to see a Ghost floating in front of me. Alarmed, I slurped up the noodles that hadn’t made it all the way into my mouth and swallowed everything quickly. “Yes?” I nodded to show I was ready to speak. “You’re William, right?” the Ghost asked, “The one who hunted a Baron for the Vanguard, amongst other things?” “Yes,” I was a little uneasy now. There was a soft “clank” and I looked down to see a rather large Vex eye staring at me, its red eye still alive although cracked. My eyes went up from the hand holding the eye to the head of its owner, which was covered by a helmet. There was nothing remarkable about his armor and I could not see his face, but the way he held himself was unmistakable. The Ghost floated over so that I could look at him and his Guardian at the same time. The two glanced at each other before the Ghost spoke again. “Have you ever heard of the Black Garden?” ____________________________________ If you haven’t figured it out by now, William is about to work together with the playable character of the Destiny games for the first time. Trust me, these two are going to be a great pair, especially with their irritable Ghosts in play. William has completed almost all of Vanilla Destiny. All that awaits now are the Black Garden and the Vault of Glass before The Dark Below begins. •As I announced some months past, I will be making a Legend Untold side arc that I will be posting alongside TDB main arc. I will not reveal anything about it, but to those who don’t know it is a major crossover event and this is THE LAST CHANCE to submit any characters you want to appear in my story.
