The Unidentified Frame quest and why it punishes people with bad RNG.
DISCLAIMER: The issue I'm talking about here is about the Unidentified Frame quest, not about the fiasco behind the entirety of Niobe Labs.
My issue with the quest is that the FIRST STEP requires RNG that I don't have and many don't. I wouldn't think this would be an issue if the second step was to complete the Shattered Throne, which is only around every 3 weeks. If they made this step the 1st, it would be better as right now, the week this launched, the Shattered Throne is available.
But the worst part about this part of the quest is that it shows how Bungie isn't listening, as we have been saying since titles launched, we don't want RNG to hold us back from getting things. I pour plenty of hours into the game and the Forges but haven't gotten a single Rare Forge bounty. Now I have to pray to get one before Tuesday to get this done, because of the Shattered Throne part. They should have it so we can buy the rare bounties from Ada-1 for maybe ~30 Black Armory Schematics.
The poll will be if you think they should add a way to buy rare bounties.
EDIT: I do the Ada bounties almost every day.

Bungie honestly needs to allow this to be purchased from Ada (and no not for some ridiculous amount of currency that people will have to insanely grind for). I’ve also been reading that many people in these forums knew from a data mine on reddit, that they should save the bounty if they received it a week or so ago. Why not post that kind of information on these forums instead of all the toxic fighting that is always going on in here? That would’ve been helpful for a lot of us who had previously received them, to save the bounty. I don’t check reddit so I wouldn’t have known. But I do check these forums like the rest of us. Would’ve been helpful to know to save it. Instead I have one on one of my characters that don’t have the forges unlocked. 😩

Yeah, I turned in a rare forge bounty a few days ago, so I'm pretty salty right now. It's a weird step for the quest; I'm not even particularly interested in Izanagi's Burden (I don't like snipers), but I wouldn't mind having it for my collection at some point.

But the rare bounty being RNG is not good. I got lucky and had a rare bounty from last week. So once again players are locked out of content because of rng. You should be able to purchase a rare bounty once a week and once per character per week. Simple solution. Now many player have to wait until the next time shattered throne is available to complete this quest.

The fact that it requires the rare bounty, and then shattered throne is made even more punishing by the fact you can only get the Black armory key mold on one character, even though all three characters can have the mystery box pursuit. This quest design is almost aggressively anti-player.

We don’t want rng? Exotic drops have been rng people literally asked for that back.... makes getting something new a real moment. I totally agree with shattering throne being a bad move. At least create a way to gain access to it without waiting for the 3rd week

2 RepliesMaybe Bungie's intention wasn't for everyone to be able to complete it the day it was released or even the week. I understand your frustration (I currently don't have a rare bounty either) but that doesn't mean it's unfair or that they're not listening to us? They literally changed the forge requirement THE NEXT DAY because people were not okay with the initial puzzle/riddle they put out. They deff listen to us, we just have to understand that it's still their game and they want to implement this system so we've gotta you know....just play the game. We're not entitled to every piece of gear immediately.

1 ReplyI've gotten 4-5, and I saved 1 per character just for this. If you've actually been doing your bounties every day since the season started, I find it very hard to believe that you haven't gotten a single one.

or have them more frequently (but maybe still quasi randomly) turn up like scrapper or gambit bounties do. complete a forge? better chance of rare bounty. turn in a rare bounty? ditto. dismantle a piece of forge gear? etc. open a maximum temper box? yep. (even if you didn't "need" to) turn in 2 weekly frames? ... successfully get a ding step in niobe? apply an armory shader to non-armor gear? rescue a caterpillar? (go thru gardens of Esila without killing a single worm) ... ... ...

I have one on each of my characters. I read about these rare bounties and that they would be needed for this quest so kept them. But they are not the only ones I have had, I think is memory serves at least another 1 on each character. Got them from handing in other bounties.

I know people who haven't gotten a single one - and I don't know all that many people. I've gotten 4 or 5, across my 3 different characters. I feel stupid for having turned them all in, although I really shouldn't feel that I'm the one at fault. I've gotten them from dailies, weeklies, even (at least once) from turning in a rare bounty. I may have even gotten them from doing other forge-related stuff, not sure since I didn't really keep track. I currently just got one (the el-stupido 50-charge one) on my Titan. but it's my Hunter that ended up with the key mould / new steps / etc. - not that this is a common problem anyone else has had. no, no no no, not common at all! but seriously, I know maybe 6 people who have been working on the latest stuff. 2 of them have never once gotten a rare bounty.

I've had only 1 rare bounty. A Youtube video I watched 2 weeks ago, about the data-mined steps for unlocking the Bergusia forge/mystery box quest, mentioned something about redeeming a rare Ada bounty so I held onto it. Glad I did. Haven't had another drop in the last 2 weeks. Ah well... sucks to be most the community stuck waiting on RNG.

Why? Do you HAVE to finish the quest this week? Why is it not OK to finish it next cycle? I haven't gotten a SINGLE dreaming city cosmetic but I'll get the title eventually(and yes, I've done everything to get them since forsaken launched). The bounties aren't THAT rare so you should definitely have one completed by next time shattered throne is around. Finish the quest then, it will give you something to look forward to instead of wishing you had more content. I know it's exciting to have something new but the content will always be here so you WILL have a chance to get it done.. BTW, the reason players think RNG is bad for titles isn't because we have to wait, it's because titles are supposed to represent achievement, no luck should be involved.

I got to the step of doing a rare bounty but had a bounty for a couple weeks ago that wasn't finished. Was lagging on completing it since I knew this bounty was going to come out. Turns out that not only did I loose my bow frame that I had been working on but I also lost the rare forge bounty when I completed the quest to get into the Bergusia Forge today. So bummed out about it since like many others I've only ever seen one.

It was that stupid freaking one that required 50 charged forges (so 25 succesful forge runs)....... There is such a thing as pointless, over the top grinding. The only challenge i get from this is not falling asleep from boredom while in the middle of playing. I think the other way they could do this is have 1 of the 2 weekly bounties guarantee a Rare Bounty and then all other bounties still have a chance to drop a Rare Bounty.

1 ReplyI was lucky enough to get my first ever one today.. What was it.. complete 50 charges in forges. So 25 forge runs..... No, im tired of the extensive grind and rng.. took me 75 runs of ep to get the shotgun and 400 stems to get the winterwolf to complete my wayfarer title... There's way to much grind for one small item....
