With the recent announcement of the coming buffs and nerfs to various abilities, I'm still disappointed with the coming changes to Burning Maul and the nonexistent ones to the subclass tree's other perks. Please Bungie, this subclass tree is vastly underused in both PvE and PvP because of its gimmicky perks. It's also a bit annoying (and yet relieving, since I mained it in Y1) that Siegebreaker got significantly buffed, while Devastator was practically ignored. Currently, it's probably the worst subclass tree in all of Destiny.
With these following suggestions, I've taken both PvE and PvP into account while also trying to resolve the crippling issues the tree has. My goal is to make this tree a viable option for both PvE and PvP.
Roaring Flames
- Increase damage buff, with 1x =
+10%, 2x = +25%, and 3x = +50%
- (Optional) Increase duration to
18-20 seconds
Throwing Hammer
- Allow user to recall their
hammer from wherever, still
proccing health regen after getting
a kill with it, having a lengthy
animation similar to some of
voidwalker's abilites
Note: Recall will only work if
the hammer is still in the game
world, not when it already expired/
exploded
- Increase the animation speed of
throwing the hammer
- Let perks like fastball affect it
- Add a HUD indicator that points to
your hammer
- Don't allow other users of Code of
the Devastator to pick up your
hammer, it's annoying
Super
- Get rid of the fire tornado's ability
to launch enemies up, it's annoying
- Following up the previous change,
allow the fire tornado to pull in
enemies
- Replace the spin move with D1's
Suncharge or a variation of it (even
if you must modify the spin), giving
this slow super a mobility option at
the cost of super energy (it'll cost
at least as much as the spin does
now), which would be able to OHK
only neutral guardians within its
path (and probably supers at 3x
Roaring Flames only), and to limit
its potential in power, get rid of the
ability to chain it back-to-back like
the current spin
- Allow the user to change direction
mid-slam, locking the direction of
the character somewhat later than
how it currently works, instead of
locking the direction at the exact
moment of activating the slam
If there are any questions about my suggestions, please ask.

Getting a buff already.

Its not a bad super. The only flaw the super has is the time it takes to slam.As a warlock and hunter i can see it coming a mile way and have ample time to retreat.I would recommend a faster slam and the ability to charge would be cool but then you'd have to find a way to balance it. The middle tree is great for charging like any hammers but significantly slower and isn't as great ay zoning as the others are.Rather than the spin i would swap it out for a sweep.I like support moves it would have been cool to have him throw hammers to allies to give overshields and dmg while burning enemies and add like a stun or CC.

I bet you havent tried it. It is VERY good in PvP now. The tornado is basically a fire cataclysm nova bomb with the tracking.
-
I don’t even have that subclass fully leveled to know it’s poopoo
-
Only cool thing about it is the throwing hammer lol
-
Eh....
-
These suggestions in a nutshell: This Thor is on FIRE!
-
I like thesew tweaks , although it feels like a god tier spec for gambit :D ( i've legit nuked it solo with right clicks ) but defintely weak in pvp and not as friendly in normal pve modes.

I made a post on this and suggested similar things. I’ve seen other posts do it to. It’s nice to see these ideas becoming a staple in the “Buff Code of the Devastator” posts. I love this subclass but it can be so underwhelming. I honestly really only use it for the throwing hammer. Pairing that with a bow in the crucible is really effective and insanely fun. The entire neutral game revolves around that hammer. It’d be great to at the very least get a hud indicator of where the thrown hammer is. And the D1 Suncharge perk absolutely needs to replace spin-to-win. The R2 smash is where the optimal dps is at so we really don’t need a subpar dps move. We need an attack that can take out aerial targets. I just wish Burning Maul would get the Spectral Blades treatment. SB got buffed so much that now it’s arguably the best roaming super in the game.

Edited by BUSTERxCHERRY: 1/29/2019 2:19:45 AMI like burning maul as it is but one thing I'd change Take away the 3rdx roaring flame stack and instead buff the 1x and 2x stack

Edited by Fishyb: 1/29/2019 12:30:54 PMIt’s getting a buff in the next update. Did no one read the twab? Damage increase. Slam radius increased. Slam fire tornado improved homing.

It's too late at this point. They knew the super was terrible and did the bare minimum to try and supposedly fix it. If it remains trash after this update which it most likely will prepare to wait another 5 months before any change.
-
I noticed the pretty funny thing right now. Do you guys remember how excited were bungie dudes in forsaken trailer about this super? And turned out it is complete shit. This is not first time, it's almost every thing they focus our attention on in trailers. Some kind of trolling?

Good but have everything except for the melee ability buff... It’s already superior to throwing knife aka the original throwable...
perhaps you could join the void...
-
I'd say it's probably the most underwhelming subclass tree in the game, but then I can't decide between this one and Attunement of Conduction. Attunement of Sky is actually useful, but most of its nodes are geared towards PvP instead.

The only real change Devastater needs is for the Light attack to be changed somehow. It's absolutely useless currently.
-
It just needs less super energy used and some more damage and a the hammer indicator and we are good mostly.
-
Edited by Gabe6: 1/28/2019 10:57:58 PMI believe at this point that subclass tree needs a rework that throwing hamming is cute but stupid. It should be like the supers right click and let you do 1 giant hammer strike that would be better than throwing a pebble at monsters
-
Lets be honest, no one uses this super for effectiveness of Damage or ad clearing. We use it to play fetch with hammers.
-
we need this tree buffed i 100% agree with you

One more person vote for middle option, and we will achieve pp poll status
