Exotic weapon catalysts across the board are a cumbersome kludge to boost player playtime. I understand why Bungie implemented them like that (desperate times, desperate measures), but between the massive RNG involved in the initial drops for many of the catalysts, the disparity of difficulty of simply participating in activities involved in making the drops happen (a raid is much more involved to even attempt than simply a world drop or crucible drop, for example), and the fact that additional grind is required after obtaining the catalyst (which may further force play of non-matchmade activities), it’s an unengaging and utterly unbalanced nightmare. Leaving some catalysts impractical to obtain or grind for is unbalanced and problematic. Leaving some catalysts outright unobtainable is unbalanced and unacceptable. Leaving some exotic weapons without catalysts entirely is also unbalanced and unacceptable. Exotic catalysts are a mess Bungie needs to clean up. Shoving any of them behind raids or raid lairs was never a good idea, to say the least.
