What is Variant A, Variant B, Variant C?

Give it a go; see what happens!! I assume it's enemy types e.g. the vex won't always have hydras, cabal won't always have sentry bots etc...you can pick what you want basically! I think there's only a choice of two; so variant C is probably a mix of both!
