Yeah I get it, I’ve playing since D1 y1 and I still barely read any of it. Why would anyone want to read when they turn their game on. I don’t buy a game to then have to research what the story is about, the game should tell you, that’s what you pay bungie for.
The story of Destiny, had it been played out fully, is incredible and to see it hidden away in a side menu that most players will never even look at is a disgrace.
There should at least be an audio version that you can play in the background while you play the actual game. At least then we’d have a clue what’s going on in this shit show

I wouldn't say it's hidden now. The grimoire was hidden on their website. These drop and are well presented. I just think is really unfair to call the writers of the lore lazy when they have created such an in depth universe that would never be able to be portrayed in cutscene and campaign missions. Forsaken is the best they have managed in this regard.

Edited by vmondude: 3/9/2019 1:47:49 PMI’m not calling the writers lazy. No way. I’m calling bungie as a whole. On their lazy attempt at portraying this lore with simple cards, that MOST players tick off the list but never actually read. If there was an audio version, then you could play and listen, learning about the story bungie cant be bothered to tell properly. *But then they can’t even keep their forums comment threads to read out in order, so I guess I’m asking to much 🤦♂️

Mass effect destroys this theory btw. Bungie should have a hell of alot more playable story. I hate reading lore to find out the story. Basically instead of playing a game...we are grinding random meaningless events in order to unlock the ability to read about the characters who actually made a difference . Why not let US fight an ahamkara? Why not US investigating the disappearance of main characters? Why not instead of unlocking the ability to read about a cool firefight or a peice of city history...let us actually make the history, and fight those battles... Because they didnt realize that's what they did. We play destiny lite, and the lore tells us what it would be like if we were actually badasses with real missions.

We kill and ahamkara in last wish raid. We searched for and found St 14. We've fought the red war, we fought the taken king. We've had epic battles. We are not time travellers so why would we go back to the golden age and take part in the battle of 6 fronts etc.

We did not fight the red war.. We fought ghaul... An imaginary city of warriors fought the real battles.

You missed the point. We read about shit in lore cards that should be playable or, have a good enough story in the gameplay that you learn this stuff on the side. Or enough optional story missions to replace the lore. The point is that we are grinding repeatable, meaningless missions... The raid, strikes, weekly and daily stuff..its all just a loop, that takes us no closer to any part of the story of the city. It's like playing sitcom, No matter what you do, when you wake up tomorrow it's the same as day 1. In the course of the entirety of d2, we have had one major development... Forsaken... This development culminates in a fairly common feeling playable zone. Which in the end is the same shit we do on every planet. This major development had nothing to do with what we do in the game. We have no effect on the destiny universe as guardians... Everything that changes the world is done on lore cards by character we never see actually fighting. Instead of reading about zavala being a bad ass, why not be able to do missions where he is with you, to earn his trust so he can grant you special stuff.. Then each person in the tower wouldve actually meant something, Players would feel like they had an impact. We went to the prison of elders with cayde...but we show up pretty much after the entirety of the effectual story is already in motion. Our role in the game is like a maintenance crew, for the shit real guardians cant be bothered with. They do missions and we get to read about it if we clean up enough trash. Last wish ahamkara is a joke. And such a powerful being and its history, story, origin, is all lost to player...if you dont read more than play. Seriously dude.. All the cool shit is in lore.. None of the lore is about us. Nuff sed.

Edited by vmondude: 3/10/2019 1:10:14 AMDestiny 2 is basically a book that you read while running on a treadmill. D1 despite its non sensical story was a million times more enjoyable and engaging than this pointless grind. The worlds were beautiful, sci-fi and interesting. In this they’re bland. The colours were bright and vibrant, in this it’s flat watercolour. And at least you could grind for a good roll, every roll is basically the same in D2 and the exotics are either auto aim cheese or a pretty gun with a yellow emblem. I simply don’t understand bungie’s motivation for wasting time on 2 thirds of the stuff in this game. WHAT ARE YOU DOING BUNGIE? WAKE UP, THIS ISN’T GOOD. ...make Destiny 3 already. Lol

They need more storyline that is playable as an option to learn more about each character. Where that character will be with you on a strike or whatever.. That should spin into having a new ghost, Which is actually a companion with arms and legs and a wire rifle.. Upgraded through missions specific to each one. That aside, The lore is cool, but it should be there to remind us of the cool stuff, not tell us about it. I would love to see mini missions that you do for each character npc, like failsafe, devrim etc... that opens up small new areas of map every few months.. It wouldn't need to be fancy, just a bit at a time, and have it expand like we are taking back each planet we visit, one step at a time... People would choose to take on a full IO side, for exclusive Asher gear and companion ghosts. Instead of choosing to spend time on gambit or strikes, they're choosing which planet they want to work on first, because it will take a while for each one to be fully opened and get the rewards... Or you can leave all the planets vanilla and go crucible only, and get those iron banner armor sets. It would be cool to run into a guy on a Mars strike wearing crazy gear you've never seen because you both worked on different planets which take so much time you couldnt reasonably expect to have every set. That's a looter mufugin shooter

Yes Mass Effect the franchise that has 4 games and only 1/4 is good. The franchise that killed itself for Anthem........for Anthem! I agree bioware used to be great at in game story telling but the gameplay was always clunky and mundane at best. Hide behind cover shoot, repeat. I don't think there is enough time or money on this planet that could produce a destiny quality game (in terms of gameplay) and a bioware quality of story. Anthem if anything is proof of this. 6 years of development and there is nothing to do and the story is practically the same as D2 vanilla.
