Continued Enhancement Core and Mod Component Discussion

Hey all, A few weeks back, we talked about Enhancement Cores coming from Gunsmith bounties in the TWAB. I wanted to give a quick update on this, as it also involves Mod Components, which have been a topic of discussion as well. Please note- this is all still in development for Season of Opulence, and could change.
• Originally announced in the TWAB, these bounties would cost Gunsmith materials. This has been changed to Glimmer. • There will be multiple daily bounties to complete, each rewarding one enhancement core and two mod components • There will be two weekly bounties to complete. These will each grant one enhancement core, one mod (Weapon or Armor), and other materials or reputation/rank points depending on the objective of the bounty. • Note: When I say rank points, think Valor or Infamy, **not** Glory.
The team is continuing to evaluate feedback over mod components, enhancement cores, and rewards all up. Thank you for the continued feedback. We'll give you updates as we have them.

  • There is no discussion, the players want them removed full stop, bungie digging in heels and refusing to budge. Money talks and if you insist on being so pig headed there will only be one loser in a saturated market. First rule of business bungie the customer is always right.

  • Thanks for this update and I think we should wait and see how this affects the economy, it could be fine. Do you have any plans to change how the Ada mods are distributed? I find it frustrating that it’s essentially just a loot box paid for with materials and totally random which mod I get. Even if the mods were for sale and rotated like the gunsmith ones, I could just wait until the one I wanted came up and purchase it. I’m not sure how many I’ve bought now but it’s well over 30 and I still haven’t received a surrounded mod.

Nah, I'm done with this enhancement core BS. The majority of the community has made it incredibly clear their position on enhancement cores and infusion. They're not needed, it's unnecessary, and as if removing them from infusion would break anything, it's just another thing to make players waste time doing things they don't want to do, when they could be doing things they actually want to do. This enhancement cores thing is probably going to be a dealbreaker for me, because it shows Bungie's stubborn stance towards player feedback. There is already too many layers and layers and layers of grind and RNG in this game, enhancement cores doesn't need to be, and NEVER needed to be another layer. They're fine for masterworking even though that should be done through gameplay and leveling, but infusion? No. I don't have time to log on every single day to buy and grind enhancement cores, which means I can rarely infuse the gear I actually want to use. So I don't, I don't bother equipping my more powerful gear now either, because what is the point? Power doesn't mean anything besides access to activities, and gambit/gambit prime can suck an egg. I have 0 reason to play the game at this point, because all progression is gated by some convoluted and pointless system like enhancement cores being required for infusion. Why the hell would I waste my time using gear I don't want to use and grind power when I have no interest in any of the new activities that require it? There's nothing about enhancement cores that is player friendly. It's another thing that makes Destiny feel like a free to play game with all these random materials and currencies, hell, they even have the time gates for powerful gear. It doesn't matter what change you make to enhancement cores, if "Removed enhancement cores requirement from infusion" isn't in the patch notes, no one is gonna wanna hear it.

          • Why couldnt you just put 2 cores and 2 mod components per bounty and for weekly bounty 7 cores i feel like bungie takes steps backwards to piss off the community on purpose and watch it be bounties that everybody hates like Go to this planet wait 6 minutes for a wanted enemy and kill it for 1 core

A Weekly bounty that rewards ONE Enhancement Core? Is this for real? How fcking dumb is this “Dev Team”? Let’s just for the sake of argument say cores isn’t an issue. How in the HELL are you giving out one SINGLE core for a WEEKLY bounty reward??? That by definition is supposed to take longer to complete and Reward MORE because it says “weekly”? WTAF????? Congrats on becoming the biggest laughingstock of looter Shooters. I’m just going to pretend this company didn’t fall out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down. Fckng Dense Maroons.... DMG04, You’re a better man than Me. If I were to be handed that note to read I would have told Bungie to shove it. That’s insulting to you DMG04, the Players and most of all the “company” that’s backing this epic fail of a decision. I would have fired the moron that even suggested these moronic decisions. On the spot. Listening my ass.... Bungie it’s time to stop pretending. Even I can’t back you anymore. You’re obviously way out of your league if you can’t see the writing on the wall about EC’s. Bungie it’s time to sign this Franchise over to a real company with the Brains and the balls to admit when they’re wrong. BUNGIE, YOU NO LONGER DESERVE THIS FRANCHISE OR ITS COMMUNITY.

Dylan...DMG_04... ...The more Bungie's team behind these decisions dig their heels in about Enhancement Cores, the more players are going to be unwilling to accept any future changes. The community is growing ever tired of constantly explaining and offering solutions to fix the problems that Enhancement Cores present. Stop this.

                  • Nothing to discuss, I have a job, do me and players like me a favor, do the right thing, make playing your game less a chore, remove the masterwork cores from infusions, materials are enough, so are shards, this is too much, and its making me want to stop playing. Its annoying and tedious for no reason. I have scrapped most of my gear cause getting the right materials in your game is too darn time consuming. The game is grind enough the way it is without this padding crap. The random rolls are grind enough bungie, get a clue.

                  •
Here we go (comment more and I'll add them): --Many exotic weapons feel worse than legendaries. When was the last time you pulled out Hard Light or Sunshot? What about The Prospector or Crimson? So many exotics offer little to no benefits over a well-rolled legendary (for example, compare a Bygones with rampage and outlaw to a Vigilance Wing. Which would you prefer to use?) --Scout rifles, auto rifles, and fusion rifles are garbage, with a few exceptions. Scouts lose out to pulses, autos to hand cannons or shotguns, and fusion rifles have been a meme for years. While there are archetypes of these weapons that are viable in certain circumstances, as a whole they are underwhelming. --Supers in PVP are nearly impossible to outplay using a neutral toolkit, and they are overly abundant due to super mods and orbs of light. Most, if not all, snipers should be able to headshot kill a super. Two shotguns shots should as well. In their current state, even teamshooting a super isn't reliable. There are only two ways to reliably shut down a super: counter with your own, or use heavy. And, since the team that snowballs first typically has control of the heavy, the latter isn't an option--as for your own supers, by the time you have them the 3 spectral aids have farmed your team off spawn thrice, the god-tier dawnblade Korean overwatch player has picked up their orbs and is flying across the map lasering people, and Captain America gone purple is well on his way to his third super with doomfangs and ursa furiosa. --Spectral Aids is tremendously unbalanced. Wall hax, wombo combo, and an impossible to kill super that lasts forever with the now universally-held gwisin vest makes players ragequit. It's not uncommon to go into competitive and see an entire team of spectral aids, each running 5 super mods, of course. --Masterwork cores hurt the game when they are required for infusion. Despite there being dozens of posts demanding they be removed, some with over a thousand upvotes, Bungie refuses to do so, and due to their "philosophy" of trying to make our choices "meaningful", hard working players are unable to grab their pinnacle weapons. --Strikes and missions are easy and boring. The lack of loot doesn't help, either. Whoever designed loaded question and the oxygen must have been playing a ton of strikes; their mundane design befits the requirements to obtain them. --Many quests and bounties are simply fetch quests with a handful of "talk to ____" thrown in. Why do I have to go to the tower at all? There should be a system of grabbing bounties no matter where you are, a vault selectable from orbit, and eververse and vendors should sell their wares in space. I don't want to travel to the tower for five minutes, walk around grabbing bounties for another five, and then having to go to two different planets to talk to spider and petra. The tower should be what it says it is: a social space, where people can find fireteams and chat with other players. --Updates to the sandbox/game are few and far between. It took months to nerf nova warp, months to buff spectral aids, it's taking months to nerf spectral aids, scouts are still bad, many weapons still lack catalysts, there's still no solo queue or suicide penalty in competitive, hand cannons that aren't 180s still have bloom on console, and pc is dominated by AoS, the hand cannon with four perks. --There are no skill trees for subclasses. Remember when you could spec out your subclass in D1? That's gone. --There is no way to transfer saves between platforms. --30fps and slow loading times on console. I guess I'll just let my Xbox One X or PS4 Pro be useless. --Mercury. --Bosses are all the same. I wonder what mechanic this boss will have...oh he just boss stomps like every other one. Every. Single. One. --Unnecessary nerfs. I thought people were trolling when they said Bungie had nerfed Fighting Lion, but nope, they did. Also: Whisper, Sleeper, Queenbreakers, Orpheus Rigs, Ursa Furiosa, ect. --No in game LFG. Sure, there's guided games, but no one uses it. --Titles locked by RNG. I hate to tell you, but you're never going to get that last weapon or cosmetic. It just won't happen. --Most Y1 gear is useless. Give random rolls to them already. Since they only have one perk and can't have a mod, compared to most post-Forsaken weapons they're inferior. --Exotic weapons can't have mods. I want a rampage spec on my masterworked huckleberry. Please. --We can't enter forges from orbit. --Light level is an arbitrary grind. The majority of time spent in-game after a new content release is spent grinding out milestones. I personally hate having to do flashpoints or heroic missions, yet in order to level up I sometimes do them anyway. Some people hate crucible, and don't want to play 5 games of super spam to get their third set of powerful gauntlets in a row. Content should be scaled based on difficulty settings, as is common with many games. Doing more difficult tasks could offer greater chances for exotics, curated rolls, and exclusive gear. --Vendors are boring. Selling the same weapons, week after week. We need a vendor refresh system like we had in D1. --Most maps in the crucible are too small for 6v6. --Most exotic armor is awful. Usually they're only useful if they affect the super in some way. The neutral game in D2, whether in PVE or PVP, isn't impactful enough to reward buffs. (OEM and others excepted, of course). --Glide still sucks compared to lift. --The armor in this game is ugly. Scatterhorn armor...eugh. The rest are only marginally better. --Iron Banner has light level advantages again. Because everyone loves getting "outplayed" by a sweaty 700 light player. --Trials is gone, and probably won't come back. While I never excelled at trials, it was a fun thing to do with friends every few months, and competitive is a poor substitute. --Many animations are too slow. Tether, barricade, rift, thundercrash, ward of dawn, etc. --Eververse broke the promise of not being pay to win. Guiding light, instant summon, and the ability to obtain armor can affect the game, and are not purely cosmetic.
• How about going back to the original D1 method of masterworking a weapon or piece of armor by equipping and using them? Why did you have to go and try to fix something that WASN'T BROKEN? GET RID OF THE CORES. Useless grinding, and then adding another pointless weekly bounty that grants you one core. After that we can go back to grinding old, worn out strikes and story missions for repetitive gear. What's the point of having a community to vocalize our opinions if you seem to care about as much as Activision?

                      • Bouties to grind for cores is the opposite of what this problem needs. As a rule, I ignore things in this game that are pointless grind activities. Destiny 2 is my primary time sink game and I spend my time raiding with my clan, crushing dreams in gambit, or pretending I'm good at PvP in crucible. I have fun in these activities, and if it's a bum night in one activity then I switch to something else. I ask that you consider either: 1. Make cores drop much more frequently and in greater volume from activities players are already playing (these are the activities that keep players active because they are enjoyable, so incentivize them). 2. Remove cores from typical armor/weapon infusion. Reserve for unique items or just for masterworking gear instead of for infusion. I love Destiny 2 and plan to continue as an active player for a very long time to come, but please consider abolishing policies and in-game practices such as this with the economy that create what some call "artificial grind" and focus on giving us more incentives for playing the activities your data can show that we already love to play.

Weekly bounties that award only one core? What drugs are you guys taking? A weekly bounty should award at least 10. Be generous and stop being stingy with loot and cores. Go back to respecting people’s time, not nerfing every damn thing and let people have their fun. Stop catering to sweaty streamers.

                        • Weekly bounties for one core? Man here I was thinking you couldn't waste anymore space with a useless and unrewarding grind, but look Bungie managed to do just that and surprise me. These bounties are an absolute joke and will probably just end up being like Spider's no one will really do them cause they ask you to go overly out of your way for not much reward and aren't any actual fun. Just remove cores from infusion. A discussion involves both sides evaluating the other. We told you for almost 7 months now we hate this system. Each time is met with disrespectful and mediocre response. The trend keeps continuing and will continue until you just do the correct thing which is remove them from infusion.

                        • Here's your problem: The infusion and masterwork economy as it currently exists (and how it looks to continue to exist), forces your players to focus on a limited set of armor/weapons for upgrading. The system actively deincentivizes exploration and experimentation beyond the familiar. It is precisely the reason that after nearly and entire year, the Ikelos Shotgun has almost never left my secondary slot. If I get materials and new infusion fodder, it goes right into Ikelos. The entire infusion economy is essentially for upgrading 3 weapons in my inventory. Then you bring along this arc week... Oh cool! A reason to use any of the arc subclasses (which have traditionally been pretty weak). I bet it would be fun to run an arc reckoning at tier 3, but OH LOOK my arc subclass gear has barely made it beyond 600 Power because why would I ever waste resources on upgrading this gear? So do this: - Make Masterworking a weapon/armor a result of using the gear. XP gains add to armor progress, Kills add to Weapon progress. - Keep Enhancement Cores as part of infusion, but either lower the cost to 1 core per infusion, of raise the amount that players are able to get per bounty.

However, what does the Community (your paying Customers) need to do to make removing Cores from Infusion a reality? Do we organize an Anthem-like boycott? Send more spam messages on your Twitter, Reddit and these Forums? Have Paul Tassi and Jason Schreier write yet another scathing column on the tone-deafness of Bungie (yet again) on this subject? C'mon dude. Let's bake some awesome bread by removing these damn Cores from Infusion. It's beyond time. Bungie: Do this and move on...
