I doubt that enhancement cores will prove to be anywhere near as profitable or helpful to bungie's brand as new coke was to coca-cola.
New coke, although clearly a failed product, actually made coca-cola a lot of money in sales of the original coke and the rebranded coke classic. People were stock piling the stuff, and sales were higher than normal.
The whole incident actually made coca-cola even more popular with the public than they were before the failed product, leading some conspiracy theorists to claim that it was all an orchestrated marketing ploy to reaffirm the public's affection for the coke brand over Pepsi.
