This whole dog-and-pony show (including the Pinnacle weapon fiasco) is about Bungie LIMITING the number of cores you can get in a week...and doing so in a manner that will NOT respond to player time investment. IOW. Bungie DESIGNED this system so that you can't get more cores by simply playing more. Because the whole GOAL of this system is to slow down and micromanage the progression rate of people who play the most.
