DMG, While having additional routes to acquire enhancement cores and mod components is fine, and regardless of the currency used to purchase them, that is still not the point. We are fine with using enhancement cores for masterworking weapons and armor. What we are NOT fine with is requiring them for infusion. When we only need to burn 5000 glimmer to infuse a higher level same weapon or armor into another, it is significantly more painful when it is into a different weapon or armor piece. This is a QOL issue, not "making choices meaningful". Let me explain. We have exotics - weapons and armor. There are only so many, and they are usually keepers and used all the time. Each time the level cap rises we have to (or rather want to) level them up. Due to the lousy drop rates of exotics (and I do mean lousy!) we cannot count on getting drops of the same, but higher leveled exotics. This means we wait until our guardians are capped out on power, then start re-infusing weapons and armor into our exotics. We have to do this to keep them relevant and it requires a significant amount of cores. Do you see where I'm going with this? Due to your requiring enhancement cores for infusion, nobody is masterworking anything. I can't remember the last time I masterworked a weapon or piece of armor. I usually just wait for a curated roll for weapons and for armor, what's the point? We get a different set of armor each season for IB, so if you invest in masterworking a set now, it is useless and underleveled next season. If you want to use it next season, then wham, you need to use more cores for infusion. The whole masterworking system for armor is a big mess and not worth the investment of the scarce cores. If cores were no longer required for infusion, you would see people making "meaningful choices" on masterworking armor and weapons. If you really want to increase the amount of cores available, just make one drop from every bounty you complete (no matter the vendor), every heroic public event, daily heroic story missions, and every heroic strike. Making a new set of gunsmith bounties just to get more cores is not going to make people play more. I can tell you right now that I trash most of the scrapper bounties that drop because I have no interest in performing the activities they require. I really don't understand why Bungie doesn't get it. You all play the game too right? Rant over and I'm stepping down from my soap box.

Well said. As I stated before, Bungie clearly knows what WE want. The problem is that what WE want isn't what THEY want US to want, so they keep trying to force us into accepting what THEY want. They use hollow rhetoric like "meaningful choices" and "impactful feelings" knowing perfectly that those situations don't apply to the infusion mechanic, never did, never will. You see, they created this stupid game of "grind-to-relevel-all-the gear-you-like-every-three-months" and one of the major ways they have to keep players in the game is by raising the power level AND throttling down the infusion system, which they do by creating a huge scarcity of cores in the game. However, that philosophy is deeply flawed: it's boring, unrewarding, steals time from playing the new content and after almost 8 months of this concept players are just giving up on playing the game. And those are the reasons why, imo, they won't remove cores from infusion AND why the players want them removed. I bet that in D3 cores will be gone from infusion but by then it will be too little, too late to bring back those who jumped off the boat because of the infusion system. So many GOOD competition this year, Destiny is not the only shark in the looter-shooter sea anymore.

I know - I just started playing Borderlands 2 because the Handsome Collection was available for $15 on PSN. I'm having fun, collecting loot, leveling a character, and doing content that is fresh to me. I know it will eventually be stale and completed, but for the time being, I'm having more fun than I've had in Destiny 2 for most of the annual pass. I'll keep my level capped on my guardians, but until there is a compelling reason to play, I'm not going to be spending nearly as much time on D2. As you said, lots of looter/shooter competition out there this year.

  • Spot on. I think they should improve on the masterwork system, there’s so much potential there to actually enhance the player experience, which cannot be said for cores in the levelling system.

  • In usually not on with people using "we" to describe their individual pov. But. You nailed it and I support your message.
