I agree, ultimately they can choose to make a final vote by opting to no longer play. I also agree that I am worried about the public perception and the seemingly stubborn approach Bungie has, that said this movement that has just been announced tells me there is a chance for compromise so I intend to offer as much constructive criticism as I can in hopes some of it will be heard and acted on.
I'm also thinking that due to the large amounts of vitriolic shouting about cores that has been happening has also backed Bungie into a corner. If they cave and completely remove the cores, those people will feel like they won and the next time a feature comes up they don't like the process will be repeated. That wouldn't lead to a very rewarding design environment.
