There wasn’t a problem for people to use multiple items for infusion or masterworking unless you were hunting etheric light since Bungie had such poor drop rates on it. Bringing back the simplicity of motes of light would leave cores for their original purpose, masterworking while providing a material the community is not only familar with but one that wouldn’t require much “hard work” for Bungie since they don’t seem to have issues with pulling old content from Destiny and selling it back to us in 2.
