Agreed.
Bungie are control freaks and they don't even understand that boosting player agency has the capacity to both make the game much more pleasant to play and increase their fun as a developer as well.
They can't grasp that concept or are too afraid of it and that's why right now this game is a series of railroad trips. A game that is not fun, not engaging, not worthy of the time invested.
