I’d like to know how many hours per week the people complaining the loudest about cores are actually putting into the game. I hit 700 forever ago and cores have never been a problem for me. And I’m not what you’d call a top tier player, either. But you do realize that taking cores out of infusion would break the economy of the game, right? Getting to max level would become easy as hell, which makes no sense for a looter shooter. And you can already straight up buy them from Spider. Unless you’re trying to infuse every crappy piece of gear in your vault with a blue every time your soft cap goes up by 1, I genuinely don’t understand how this is an issue.

  • You are the problem of the problem, not the solution.. I spend two days full time exploring the forges glitch and got tons of materials which I then turned into legendaries which then I turned into mw cores ..( you can have it run over night or while you are at work) I don’t have a shortage of them and a renewable free source .. And I still think they are wrong here .. they do not deliver what the devs claim since they make me stick to my universal load out and not try out new masterworked guns and for leveling purposes I can also wait for the identical armor piece to drop and infuse that without any cost Masterwork cores should be back to improve weapons and not slow down player progression .. that’s it .

  • Like I said in another reply (and in my original post), my concern is what would happen if cores were removed from infusion without any other changes to compensate for that. I don’t feel like the grind is too much — I usually hit max power level about halfway through a season, which feels right to me. I don’t think that the current implementation is the best solution, but I also don’t want to just yank something out without thinking through the effect that it would have on game progression. Ultimately, I think the larger issue is the overall economy of the game, and yeah I would like to see that addressed. But I’m not currently impeded by it, either. If I need something, I know what I need to do to get it, and I’m not locked out from getting it. That’s different from just not being able to acquire what you need to level your character.

Probably not many. That's because they've lost the desire to play due to the boring and tedious power grind. And that my friend is the real problem, cores are boring people away from this game. No amount of bounties is going to change that. Edit: also, making the power grind easy does not break the game whatsoever. That's because with the current way power level works we're constantly grinding to be less weak, not more strong.

  • That’s true to a point, but once you’re at level for an activity, any power increase above that does make you stronger relative to the enemies. There’s always going to be max level activities but that’s endgame content, so yeah. I see a lot of Borderlands comparisons now that Gearbox decided to exist again, which is funny to me because leveling up in UVH is an actual grind. By comparison, leveling up in D2 is baby mode.

  • You can be killed by anything in patrol zones whether you are level 700 or 500. Same goes for regular strikes, heroic strikes and Nightfall. You see the pattern here? Who cares how quickly you get to the new power level. It allows you access the newest content. Only time power level matters is if you are under powered.

  • I’m not sure what your point is. Those activities aren’t endgame content, and someone with no cores for infusion isn’t going to have a problem there unless they’re just bad at the game.

  • I go back to my original point, the grind in Destiny is boring. It's boring to the point that it's driving people away.

  • I mean it has to be one or the other. People complain about cores adding to the grind, but remove them and the grind becomes easier, leveling becomes easier, you hit max power level sooner, and then you’re like “well now I’m bored.” I should probably also clarify that I’m not saying that the current D2 economy is the best or should never be changed. (I really miss destination vendors being useful.) I just fear what would happen if cores were removed from infusion, with no other balancing changes made. I do agree with the philosophy of making infusion a “meaningful choice”, and I’d like to preserve that. (People may disagree, and that’s fine.) And I also think that using cores for both infusion and masterworking is not the best way to implement that idea. Maybe increase legendary shard cost per infusion, I don’t know. But even then, I’m currently sitting on 400+ shards and that’s low for me. Anyway, I do think that the overall economy needs to be revisited, but it should be done thoughtfully.
