It really is a credit to the sound design, but I swear you'll feel like you're standing in a VERY active garden.

If you haven’t played d1 in a while, start it up and be amazed how much better the audio is on the old game than the new one.

D1 DEFINITELY has awesome sound design! I have a baby Titan that I'm running through the campaign. I still enjoy D1 heartily, and will keep playing that one off and on until the servers get shut down.
