Riven is one of the better fights designed by the team, but it hasn't held up the test of time. It is pretty much expected from every single group to know how to beat Riven on the first floor so as to minimize interaction with the other 80% of the fight and I think that is a shame. I think Riven is up to par with my favorite fight, Val Ca'uor, when you don't skip it. Val Ca'our allows an optimized group to destroy the boss in one phase, but you still have to do everything else that the fight has to offer at least once, and Riven should follow suit. I had a couple of ideas for changes that could allow optimized groups to still avoid having to repeat the fight after they've gone through one iteration.
Reduce the damage Riven takes on the first two floors by some number (such as 65%).
When the players are fighting on the third floor, if Riven reaches the critical health threshold, she could close her mouth, still leaving her eyes exposed to wipe the team if they did not take care of the mechanic.
After that phase, the team should still need to activate the pads to drop down and destroy the boils on Riven. If the damage to Riven before dropping was at the threshold or reaches it due to boil popping, popping the boils will teleport the players into the ascendant realm, while failure to pop one or some number of boils will leave them to be consumed by darkness. If the health threshold is not met due to boil popping, the pops will simply remove the consuming darkness debuff and allow them to continue as before. If Riven's health threshold is met downstairs there after, after popping her eyes at that damage phase, the team should be taken to the ascendant realm. The rest can remain the same.
Any thoughts about these ideas? I really want the "skipping" Riven meta to come to a close as it is a lot more enjoyable to do the actual fight.
